Magazine Advert and Digipak Analysis
G324: RESEARCH
Who are they?Name: MuseGenre: Rock
Muse is an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of school friends Matthew Bellamy , Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard.
FASHION/STYLE: Muse's style tends to be smart casual. They don't have a specific style related to their music; they dress like normal men their age.
PERFORMANCE: Since some of their biggest hits Muse have become globally recognized, their song 'survival' was the song of the 2012 London Olympics. The scale of their performances is arena sized, with a huge fan-base. Muse has one of those more matured fan bases in comparison to other younger bands.
ADVERTISEMENT: Muse is so well known that most people have heard of them and their music. Muse has had their songs played on television through music stations such as Kerrang! and on adverts. One example is the Virgin air travel when they play "When I'm feeling good". Also many plays on various radio stations. On their official website there is a pop-up if a trailer, advertising them in Rome. Muse is flaunting their success through unintentionally and intentional platforms.
Digipak Analysis
There are no pictures of the band in the album cover; from this we can assume they are a well identified group. They focus on a consistent theme of their front cover design
throughout. This shows the pack to be part of the same thing, rather
than being miss-matched. It makes it more professional with it all being
similar.
Card sleeves for the collection of CD’s
A Box, with the artists name across it – this
is a collection product.
The Resistance front album cover is
repeated onto the smaller holders and
then the circular shape is printed
onto the CD’s as a running theme.
Magazine Advertisement Analysis A picture of the album
they are promoting is in the top left hand corner, adjacent to the title of
the album. Information about the
album is also presented at the top part of the
advert.
The artist is named in the middle of the print,
centered and upper case. 'Muse' covers 1/3 of the
advertisement and initially grabs your
attention.
Logos and information is put at the bottom in
small print, like we have seen with the
other advert annotations.
The album artwork is consistent with the style of
the advertisement, following the colour scheme of orange,
black and white.
No images of the bands profile have been included or
photography.
A single is promoted with a similar design to the
album layout, except it is ‘flipped’ over giving the advert a symmetrical
design.
