DESCRIPTION
I prepared these slides for a short speech at the internal launch of State Library of Queensland's Content Strategy, which replaces their Collection Development Policy. I didn't use the slides in the end, but spoke to this outline. I spoke about two things: trends in the practice of collecting, and the nature of information, specifically how it has changed since 'Web 1.0'. Notes to accompany slide nine: Web 2.0 and social media in particular have fundamentally changed the nature of information: how it is created, how it flows, how it is sourced, how it is used, and how it is interpreted. The ‘participative, multimodal, flat and ever-changing features of Web 2.0 services’ (Špiranec & Zorica, 2010, p. 151) are fundamentally different to the features of Web 1.0 and have undoubtedly had a profound impact on the nature of information experience.
