This is Paris. It is the capital city of France. This big river is called the Seine. The Seine is a 776 km (482 mi)-long river. There are 37 bridges within Paris and dozens more spanning the river outside the city. Outside the city, examples include the Pont de Normandie, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world, which links Le Havre to Honfleur.

The river, 1,020 km (634 mi) long, flows north, northwest, southwest, and finally west through a 56-km (35-mi) long estuary into the Bay of Biscay.

Rising in the Swiss Alps, it flows into Lake Geneva, then crosses into France through the Jura Mountains. It continues south through Lyon, Avignon, and Tarascon to Arles and enters the Mediterranean west of Marseille.

Notre Dame de Paris also known as Notre Dame Cathedral,is a Gothic, Catholic cathedral.

It took nearly two centuries to complete construction of this masterpiece. Building began under the orders of Maurice de Sully in 1163 and was completed in the 14th century.

Notre Dame is French for "Our Lady," with the name of the cathedral referring to Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The Sainte-Chapelle ("Holy Chapel"), located within the

Palais de Justice complex on the Ile de la Cité in the center of Paris.

It was erected by Louis IX, king of France, to house the Crown of Thorns and a fragment of the True Cross, precious relics of the Passion.

Louis had purchased these in 1239 from the Byzantine emperor Baldwin II, for the exorbitant sum of 135,000 livres (the chapel "only" cost 40,000 livres to build).

The Cévennes National Park Is located in southern France, in the mountainous area of Cévennes. Created in 1970, the park has its administrative seat in Florac at Florac CastleThe Aven Armand cave is located in the park. The Cévennes country is rich of history, with a strong cultural identity, being at the heart of Camisard revolt, which followed the revocation of the Edict of Fontainebleau, after which protestants were actively prosecuted. Numerous testimonies of Camisard war in the Cévennes abound in towns and villages of the Cévennes National Park. A project of a permanent exhibition devoted to the memory of Camisards has been elaborated at the old temple of Le Rouve

CEVENNES NATIONAL PARK

Versailles Park is the park of the Palace of Versailles. It was designed between 1660 and 1670 by Le Notre, the famous gardener of French King Louis XIV. Versailles Park is a masterpiece of French gardening, where nature is ordered geometrically according to the rules of Classicism. Versailles Park is a perfect place to take a day rest outside of Paris and a beautiful and historical garden. Riding a boat on the Grand Canal, a bicycle in the park alleys, taking a snack in the elegant La Flotille restaurant, you will love Versailles Park.

The Luxembourg Gardens are a beautiful 25 hectares oasis on Paris fashionable left bank. Enjoy their unique and relaxing Parisian atmosphere.

Queen Marie de Medicis opened the Luxembourg Gardens in 1612. She commissionnedthe Palace on the model of Palazzo Pitti in her native Florence.

Crowded on sunny days, the Luxembourg Gardens are the most romantic park in romantic Paris.

Spread with statues, fountains and flowers, the Luxembourg Gardens have many attractions for children: ponys, merry-go-round, puppet shows.

THE LOUVRE MUSEE D'ORSAY

The Louvre is located in Paris, France, on the right bank of the Seine River. It is one of the largest museums in the world. It is an art museum that holds Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting, the Mona Lisa.

Three Interesting Facts:1. The Louvre was not even suppose to be a museum, it was intended to be a place for Henry VI's drawings and paintings.

2. The international Louvre museum sometimes makes us forget that it was originally designed as a palace.

3. In 1793, the Louvre was opened as a public museum, and French painter Jacques-Louis David was appointed head of the commission to administer it

One of the world's most-visited museums, the Musee d'Orsay houses the largest collection of painting, sculpture, and decorative objects produced between 1848-1914, showcasing many of the most remarkable works of the early modern era.

In the centre of Paris on the banks of the Seine, opposite the Tuileries Gardens, the museum was installed in the former Orsay railway station, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900.

So the building itself could be seen as the first "work of art" in the Musee d'Orsay, which displays collections of art from the period 1848 to 1914.
