 FRACTAL ANATOMY

Biology has been very influenced because of the fractals

revolution. In humans body there are lots of examples of

fractals systems as neural network, vascular network and

others ducts.

Although these structures have different functions, they

have physiologic aspects in common. Their fractal’s

ramifications and withdrawals amplify in big quantity their

absorption areas surface.

- NEURAL NETWORK

Just like human brain cells which have higher

fractal dimension than that of the general sphere

cells, viruses are metabolically active having higher

metabolic rate than the infected sphere cells due to

their unsmooth surfaces having higher fractal

dimension.

- VASCULAR NETWORK

The arterial network ramify into millions of veins that

subdivide into its minimum expression. It’s for that reason

that each cell receives the perfect quantity of nutrients to

satisfy its vital functions in time and shape.

** Doctors are surprised because with these fractal

techniques they can easily find premature signs of some

diseases. Their tools measure the biological complexity

and they allow to see how we get away from them.

FRACTAL VIRUSESOne of the most importants applications of fractals in medicine is obtained with fractal

viruses. Nowadays it realizes studies about some tumours that grow and ramify with

fractal shape.

In addition, a group of researchers have used fractal techniques to predict osteoporosis.

This disease normally affects to old people or people with calcium deficiency. To detect

this disease, they realize test results about bones texture

 FRACTALS IN GENETICS

Presently, genetics field is very important and we can find lots of similarities with

fractals because in both of them, from simple information, it appears complex

structures.

DIABOLICAL LENSIt exists some new diffractive lens known as “diabolical lens”. They are able to increase

the deep’s person spotlight and to reduce the chromatic aberration. They are called in

this way because their design is about a fractal structure called “devil stairs”.

In these photos there are diffractive lens, we can appreciate their structures, formed by

lots of unequal concentric rings. Multifocal lens of this type are used to correct the

tired eyesight and in their intraocular version are used to replace the crystalline lens in

cataract cirugy.

 CURIOSITIES:

- One application of fractals is currently carried out in the regeneration of skin

tissue.

- The possible regeneration of whole organs for use in transplants is under

investigation

- A similar relationship is being studied between the structure of the blood conduits

of the human body and the fractals.
