The Finnish educational systemThe higher education system comprises universities and universities of applied sciences (UAS). The admission requirement For both is a secondary general or vocational diploma.

Universities, which are scientific or artistic institutions, focus on research and education based on research. They confer Bachelor's, Master's, licentiate and doctoral degrees.

Universities of applied sciences offer work-related education in response to labour market needs.A bachelor’s degree requires 3.5 - 4.5 years of full-time study. The requirement for Master's programmes is a UAS degree or equivalent, plus a minimum of three years of work experience in the field concerned.

Well-being ServicesThe unit of Well-being Services gives students the skillsand competence needed in social services andIndividuals’ everyday well-being.

Elements of the studies are theoretical education, work placement, project work and thesis project. All these elements create a continuous link between education and working life.

Students are encouraged to customer-oriented work, ethically sustainable activities, increasing comprehensive well-being and giving an opportunity to fulfill themselves.

Hospitality Management• The degree programme in Hospitality Management gives the

skills and competence to work in key areas of hospitality and services industries, i.e. in tourism, hotel and conference services, in food, restaurant and catering services and in facility management.

• The education is based largely on project work and co-operative learning but includes also lectures and virtual studying. The goal of the degree programme is to educate professionals for development and managing tasks with the knowledge, skills and outlook needed to be ready for ever-changing challenges in hospitality and services industries.

Master’s Degrees at Universitiesof Applied Sciences

• The Master’s Degree is a response to the increasing expertise requirements of working life

• In addition to a Bachelor’s Degree, three years of work experience is required for the studies

• Students complete their professional Master’s Degree in collaboration with their own work community

• A Master’s Degree gives knowledge, skills and competence for demanding development and expert tasks
