Food resources
For their existence, all living organisms essential require food. Food supply proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins and minerals which are essential the living organism for the growth and development of living organisms. It also protects the body and provides energy for doing all life functions.
Nutrient Management; Nutrients are the food of the plants. The food required by plants is provided by certain mineral elements, which are known as plant nutrients. Plant absorbs a large number of elements from the soil.
Sources of essential plant nutrients
The plants get nutrients from three different sources. These sources are air, water and water and soil. The nutrients available from these three sources to the plants are shown in the following table.
out of 13 nutrients obtained from the soil nitrogen, phosphorous potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur are required by plants relatively in large quantities, hence they are called major of macronutrients. The remaining 7 are iron, boron, manganese, zinc, copper; molybdenum and chlorine used by plants in very small quantities are called minor or micronutrients.

Carbon oxygen
Hydrogen Nitrogen,Phosphorous,Pottasium,calcium,magnesium,zinc chlorine etc.
Irrigation System: Keeping in mind the scarcity of water and varied climate of our country, several irrigation systems are adopted to supply required water; to agriculture lands. These systems are as under:
Canal system: Rotation system provides adequate irrigation to all the fields when the water supply is short.
Wells, dug wells, Tube wells, River lift system, Tanks are the irrigation system
Weed control:
Weeds are unwanted plants in cultivated fields. Weeds tend to compete with the crops for food, space and light. In comparison of cultivated crops, the seeds of weeds germinate easily and their seeds grow faster. In facts weeds take up all the nutrients and reduce the growth of crop in various ways. Therefore, removal of weeds from cultivated field in early stage of crop is essential for a food harvest.
Animal Husbandry:
The branch of agriculture that deals with feeding, caring and breeding of domestic animals called animal husbandry.Animal based farming includes cattle, goatsheep, poultry and fish farming.
Breeds of Buffaloes: There are 10 breeds of buffaloes in our country. The following are the three important breeds that yield more milk:
Murrah: It is the native of Haryana and Punjab. The average yield of milk is 1800 to 2000litres, during its lactation period.
Mehsana: This buffalo is native of Mehsana and Vadodara districts of Gujarat. It gives 1200 to 2500 litres milk during lactation period.
Surti: It is native of Kheda and Vadodara districts of Gujarat. It gives 1600 to 1800 milk during lactation period.
Fish production: Fish is a valuable and important resource of food, rich in proteins. There are two types of obtaining fish, one is from natural resources, which is captured fishing and other is by fish farming, called culture fishing.
India has a vast scope of marine fishery. Our marine fishery resources include 7500 km coast line and extensive deep sea. The most preferred Indian sea fishes or table fishes are : Pomphrets, Tuna, Bombay duck. Eel, etc.Fishes like Bombay duck and pomphrets are available in large quanitty on the sea coast of Saurashtra and Kutch of Gujarat . Bee-Keeping : The practice of bee keeping is called
apiculture. IT is done to get honey and bee’s keeping needs low investments, farmers use it is an additional income generative activity.
Manure: Manures are organic materials added to the soil to increase the production of crops. They are biological in origin. They contain large quantities of organic matter and also supply small quantities of nutrients to the soil.
Fertilizers:
Fertilizers are manufactured artificially in the industrial units by the use of chemicals and are used for the commercial purpose. They contain much higher amount of nutrients. They contain much higher amount of nutrients, hence they are used in very small quantities. Fertilizers supply nitrogen, phosphorous and pottassium and are used for good vegetative growth.
