FOLLOWING AND CHALLENGING CONVENTIONS: INSPIRATION FROM EXISTING PRODUCTSContents Pages

One convention of a contents page is usually the title which says contents page. There are examples of already exsisting contents page titles and mine and as you can see I’ve followed conventions of original contents page however added some extra things so make mine uniqute such as the date, issue number and websites of my magazine. Moreoever I included the logo to my magazine as this is also a convention of music magazine. I thought it was well suited which is the reason I decided to include it in mine.

Contents

• Another convention of a contents page is subheadings and stories. These are conventionally places on the left or right hand side of the contents page and show the story, a mini preview of the story and the page number in which the story features on. I also included a range of different stories ranging from artists too the top 25 songs, to festival guides to give more of a range of stories. I also kept to my colour scheme of black, red and white for continuity.

Subheadings & Stories

• Supscriptions are a conventional part of contents page. A subscription box is a way to let the audience buy the magazine at a discount price by paying upfront and also by doing this receiving several discounts and gifts. I included this in my magazine by offering my audience 60% if they pay £2 a week. Many magazine chose to place the supsription box in different places in their contents page depending on the layout and I chose to place mine on the left hand side as I thought this was a very good place to lace my contents page below my feature stories.

Subscriptions

• When researching into already existing music magazine I found a lot of them include a few images on the second page as in insight into some of the bands featuring in the magazine or sneak previews into pages of the magazine. I decided to follow these conventions by including images into my magazine. Furthermore I included another main feature image of the artist from the front cover as he is the main attraction/ feature of this issue of Rock Magazine.

Images

• Editors choice, When researching into already existing magazines I found out a lot of magazines have a section written by the editor of the magazine with a small box with the editors thoughts on this issue. I thought I’d keep to contentions and keep it relatively short and also include a picture of the editor himself (which was me) and also a signature.
