& floating architecture.To investigate the sustainable
characteristics through realized and planned floating

FLOATING MARINAS
MARINAA marina (from Spanish [maina], Portuguese [main] and
Italian [marina]: marina, "coast" or "shore") is a dock or basin
with moorings and supplies for yachts and small boats. A marina
differs from a port in that a marina does not handle large
passenger ships or cargo from freighters.The word marina is also
used for inland wharves on rivers and canals that are used
exclusively by non-industrial pleasure craft such as canal
narrowboats

Location: Great Barrier Reef area in Queensland, Australia Year
of completion: 1988Size & scale: 5 story, 140 double rooms and
34 luxurysuites, Volume:- 29,000The world's first offshore floating
hotel, four seasons hotel had been installed adjacent to
Australia's Great Barrier Reef(GBR) in March, 1988.The hotel was a
self-supporting floating building and so had a desalination plant
for fresh water, on-board sewage and waste treatment.Four seasons

of completion: 2008- Size & scale: 2 story, 23 rooms(46 beds)-
Date of visit: August 8th-9th, 2011Floating hotel "Salt &
Sill", SwedenIn October 2008, Swedens first floating hotel,
designed by Mats & Arne Arkitektkontor AB, Sweden,opened
alongside the famous restaurant "Salt & Sill".
Floating mosque, Dubai
Location: Palm Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAE- Year of design: 2007- Size
& scale: 1 storyThe flat-roofed floating mosque, designed by
Koen Olthuis of Waterstudio, the Netherlands, has minarets,
traditional Islamic arches, and two rows of 12m high transparent
plastic columns that do not only support the roof but also give
daylight through the prayer hall.
