FLOAT OR SINK?

An object will float if it is less dense than the liquid it is placed in.

An object will sink if it is more dense than the liquid it is placed in.

The density of a substance is its mass per unit volume.

Formula : d = m / V

Unit : kg/m3

Water density = 1000 kg/m3

1.Calculate mass

2.Calculate volume

* Using formula

* By submerging the object in water

3.Find out density

4.Compare with water density

Calculate the volume by submerging it in water :

1. Fill up the graduated beaker about half way with water.

2. Write down the measurement

3. Submerge the object

4. Take the new measurement.

5. Subtract the new measurement from the original. The difference, is the volume of the object.
