1. Steady as she goes
Try to keep your filming as steady as possible.
Shaky video footage looks unprofessional and can be distracting to the audience.

1. Steady as she goes
Equipment tip: keep your video on the straight and narrow by setting up your camera on a tripod.
Tripods can be bought for as little as $15 from specialty electronics and camera stores, as well as from variety and department stores.

2. Say what?
Make sure your video’s sound is nice and clear.
We recommend doing some testing first. You don’t want to a get the whole way through filming only to find out at the end that the dialogue can’t be heard.

2. Say what?
Equipment tip: An external microphone can be a handy tool for producing clear sound.
The microphone you need will depend on what type of camera you have. A quick search of Google will reveal some good options.

3. Be prepared
Make sure your batteries are fully charged before you set out to shoot your video. There’s nothing worse than running out of battery mid-take!

4. Let there be light
Lighting is crucial to a great looking video!
Ensure lighting is at a level where the video subjects can be seen clearly. When shooting outside, keep the sun behind you and use natural lighting where possible.
Equipment Tip: if you need to, position a lamp or reflector to create better lighting.

5. Effects second
Special effects are a great way to add flair to your video.
We recommend adding your effects at the editing stage, rather than shooting with an effect turned on. Keep in mind that too many effects can also be very distracting!
