Fire Prevention

• The “Fire Triangle” identifies the three components of any fire:– Fuel paper, wood, flammable gas, energized electrical

equipment, etc...– Energy (heat), sufficient to support combustion. Often

referred to as the ignition source.– Oxygen (air) IF ANY ONE OF THESE IS MISSING, A FIRE CANNOT CONTINUE.

Fire Warning and Control Systems

• These fire warning systems such as :– Heat and/or smoke

detectors.– Kitchen hood system.– Automatic fire sprinkler

systems.

Exit Drills• At home , you and

your family should practice a fire drill from time to time

Evacuation

• Primary and secondary evacuation routes should be established, and all your family should be involved in evacuation procedures, and know safe exits.

• Exits should be clear and not blocked.

Evacuation Planning• Make sure everyone in your family knows

and practices escape routes from every room in your home.

• Remember to escape first, know how to notify the fire department, and when to call for help.

• Never open doors that are hot to touch.• Teach your family if their clothes catch fire

to stop, drop to ground and roll until the flames are extinguish.

Remember to RACE during a fire

• R R escue – rescue anyone in immediate danger.

• AA lert – yell out" Fire” dial your area emergency phone number.

• C C ontain – Close all doors and windows.• E E xtinguish/Evacuate – Extinguish

small fires, evacuate the building.

Fire Extinguishers• Remember this easy acronym when using

an extinguisher - P.A.S.S.•Pull the pin.•Aim the nozzle.•Squeeze the handle.•Sweep side to side at the base of

the fire.• NOTE: If, when using a fire extinguisher, the fire is

physically larger than you can safely handle, evacuate the area and notify others , and call your area fire station department.

Remember the Following• Involve everyone, including

children in emergency evacuation plans.

• Smoking is still the main cause of house fires.

• When using portable heating devices, keep them far away from flammable materials.

• Do not overload electrical outlets.• Practice good housekeeping

techniques.• Use non flammable storage

cabinets.
