Dissertation Fellowships◦ Funds for one or two years of dissertation writing.

These awards are usually for students in their final stages of writing. Typically not awarded to students who have not yet advanced to candidacy.

Funders may expect winners to present their results at a conference and to graduate at the end of the award period.

Research Grants◦ Funds for specific research needs (supplies,

participant compensation, equipment) requested through a detailed budget. These awards are usually for students in the exploratory and

active research phases of a project.
