Haiku Poetry

• Haiku poetry is a short form of Japanese poetry typically characterized by three characteristics.

1. Cutting- verbal punctuation mark which signals the moment of separation and colors in the manner in which elements are related

2. 17 lines-5 lines then 7 the 5 again

3. Usually have seasonal references

How Eisenstein binds this to his cinematographic principle?

• Cinematic principle in Eisentien’s work shows the importance of combining shots that depicts a particular meaning. In Haiku symbols and references are also combine to maintain, create, and follow through with an idea.

How are similar to montage.

• Haiku’s are montage phrases.• Meaning they are just like shot lists.

• They are simple combination of 2 or 3 details of a material kind, that yields a perfectly finished representation of another kind. (psychological)

• Meaning the images used in montage, are similar to the phrases used in haiku’s.• Because both paint a picture in ones mind.
