FEDERAL PRISON

Page 2: Federal prison

In 1829, in the common wealth of Pennsylvania a defined prison was built to create genuine regret. Abandoning Corporal Punishment and Ill Treatment! A group of well known powerful Philadelphians decided to bring forward the need of prisons. Eastern State Penitentiary Proponents of the system believed that the criminals exposed to thoughts of their behavior would become genuinely “penitent.” Thus the word Penitentiary.

“Working in a prison is a specialist job that requires great integrity and strength of character. In order to make this career work for you, it is important to enter it with an open mind and a humane approach. Working in a prison is not a wise career move if the thought of having power and authority attracts you, because those are the wrong kinds of motivation, and you will probably end up doing more harm than good. Prisoners can be influenced in positive or negative ways by the approach that the prison staff take with them. Likewise, prison staff can be influenced by the prisoners in their care.”

CONTRAVERSY ON INTENTIONS“The Federal Bureau of Prisons, judged by any standard, is widely and consistently regarded as a model of outstanding public administration, and as the best value provider of efficient, safe and humane correctional services and programs in America.” If that is the governments Vision Statement why is this going on inside prisons?

Inmates and Prisons in 1970’s 1970’s after the declaration of

the “War on Drugs” was the start of the rise of Inmates in America!

1977 number of incarcerated inmates: 452,790

As Americans if our intentions were really to redirect inmates, “teach them to be penitent” offer second chances, educate, and progress. Our outcome of incarceration should not be almost 600 times more than any other country.

2005 number of incarcerated inmates: 2,193,798

MISSION OF FBOP TO PROTECT

AMERICA’S GOAL TO CONTROL

This vision will be realized when: The Bureau provides for public safety by assuring that no escapes

or disturbances occur in its facilities. The Bureau ensures the physical safety of all inmates through a

controlled environment which meets each inmate’s need for security through the elimination of violence, predatory behavior, gang activity, drug use, and inmate weapons.

Through the provision of health care, mental, spiritual, educational, vocational and work programs, inmates are well-prepared for a productive and crime-free return to society.

The Bureau is a model of cost-efficient correctional operations and programs.

Our talented, professional, well-trained, and diverse staff reflect the Bureau’s culture and treat each other fairly.

Staff work in an environment free from discrimination. A positive working relationship exists where employees maintain

respect for one another. The workplace is safe, and staff perform their duties without fear

of injury or assault. Staff maintain high ethical standards in their day-to-day activities.

LIFE AFTER PRISONAn Inmates

LifeThoughts about

Inmates

Living a life as an inmate is not what everybody else is going to make it, its what your going to make it! Only you can reevaluate your life and make corrections. There are only limitations but not impossibilities!

LIVING LIFE ON BOTH SIDES

Inmates WifeLiving as a Wardens Daughter an a Inmates wife, I have no real Controversy with either side. I believe Individuals are the flaws inside and outside the system. I believe many government employees that work in the Prison system intentions are fair, however are unaware of the intensity of their job, then change begins. Inmates on the other hand enter the prison with a pre-judgmental thought, preparing themselves physically and mentally not only against other inmates but also government employees . I trust if we were able to focus back on our main intentions to guide, instruct and allow inmates to be “penitent” we may have fewer reoccurring offenders, less violence against prisoners and guards, and a greater understanding of Life on both sides.
