Who is supervisor ?“A doctoral advisor (also dissertation director or dissertation advisor, and known in British English as a doctoral supervisor) is an advanced member of a university facultywhose role is to guide graduate students who are candidates for a doctorate degree, helping them select coursework, as well as shaping, refining and directing the students' choice of sub-discipline in which they will be examined or on which they will write a dissertation.”
Who is research student ?
“a student studying for a doctoral award, that is, a PhD or an M.phil.”
Student’s expectation from supervisor.
• Student expect to be supervisedregularly as opposed to whenever itis convenient for its supervisor oronce he have nearly completed thedissertation.
• Student expect the supervisor tomake (written) comments not onlyon the details of the work but alsoon the overall progress of the study.

• Student expect supervisor to correct and comment on his/her written work and not only assure student that s/he has read it.
• Student Expect from supervisor read all of the work submitted, and to allocate an appropriate amount of time to discuss it with student.

• Student expects from supervisor to read its work in advance of a meeting.
• Student expect the supervisor to be available when needed.
• Student not restrict itself to the scheduled meetings alone. If S/he feel the need to talk with supervisor about something urgent or important, S/he do not hesitate to request a meeting.

• Student expect its supervisor to be an advisor and not a judge.
• The supervisor is not only there to praise for student’s excellent work or condemn for its poor progress. She / he should be able to ask the right questions and make useful suggestions.

• The supervisor criticize and provide feedback in a constructive way supported by reasonable arguments.
• Student expect its supervisor to have a good knowledge of the research area.

• Student expect from supervisor to have a good knowledge of the research area a student working in and to be able to understand what student is doing and supervise student effectively.
• Student expect from Supervisor able to introduce him/her to innovative and experimental work.

• As research proceeds, student expect the balance in the relationship with supervisor to change from one where the supervisor is guiding and directing student’s work to one where student is in control of what student is doing.
