LOCATIONS NIKKI J – THE WAY YOU DO

There will be several times that we use a tight street such as this in

the music video. The tight nature of the street is also iconic. It resonates a feeling of closeness

that the lead characters also feel with each other because they are in love. The street will be a connecting area that is seen when

the characters are going to another location. The street will very much act as a sort of fi l ler location. It is an area which lots of

people can relate to due to its common nature.

There is a few scenes were we will be shooting at a night sky such as the one

pictured. This will be based on a performance based scene but a lot more laid back, with dancing and sparklers key

elements of the scene. We may fall into issues when trying to fi lm this scene. We will have to wait for the right moment, when cloud cover is low, to make sure we get the

right shot for the fullest effect. Due to living in a city, the light pollution of the area will make it very difficult to get this exact feel, therefore we will have to either go to an

area away from the main city or make do with whatever we can get and add effects in the editing process afterwards.

The outside of a house will be used when our artist enters and leaves the property and also when she answers the door.

We do not have the resources to use an expensive house with a grand entrance that is often used by some major R&B artists. We do feel however that this would stil l work well.

This is our artists first video so does not have the resources or brand name for a rich area. This will symbolise the lower forms of R&B which are also symbolic to the genre. We will have no issues with fi lming here as I am happy to use my

front door, or alternatively if it would fit the artist, we could use her house as well.

The front room is a central part of a house

and therefore a central part of a love story between a couple. We

will see the couple relaxing on the sofa watching the television, playing CD’s. Moments

that are key to the love genre. The R&B element will probably not be too present during these

scenes. However this could be one way in which we go against the

genre expectations. I am happy to use my front room for the fi lming, or if it would be easier for our

artist, I would be happy to use her house as well.

An underpass is a key location that i s often associated with the R&B genre, a location

that we will definitely look to be using in our music video. The graffiti walls symbolise someone’s individuality and

artists may leave their own mark to place in the background of their videos. We would not be allowed to do this, however we would use the wall as a way of l inking

the video back to the genre. The dark underpass perhaps symbolises that the artists and the genre have something to hide. We will look to use the local

underpass for this shot as it provides exactly what we are looking for.

We will see the bedroom when the artist is back from her night out with her lover, she is in pyjamas

and has lost the make-up and nice clothing that is synonymous with the R&B genre. A bedroom is however a key part of the love genre. We will

therefore be conforming to one set of genre expectations, whereas we will not be following the other set of expectations. I am happy to use one of our family rooms for this scene, however if our artist

feels more comfortable with using her own bed then this is also fine.

A night club would be an important area to use for the performance

based scenes in front of a crowd to show the artist progression from a nobody into a superstar. Night clubs

are a key element of R&B Music Videos. However due to our age it will be hard to get into a night club. Therefore a community hall may also work well.
