Snatch (2000)

In snatches opening titles sequence they havethe characters right after the jewel heist sit oppositeeach other in the getaway van. The characters areparallel from each other creating a somewhat aesthetically pleasing image, as they used the rule of thirds, making every fit right in still quite a tight shot portraying the action.

We replicated this look by having our character parallel from each other, as well establishing the scene, we did this with the use of mise en scene.

Get the Gringo (2012)

Within this scene, this character storms into the action, making an entrance. However whatis unique about this shot is his placing, which isvery unusual as it appears he is caged into the frame, which creates a kind of uneasy feeling forthe audience.

In our piece our character propels her self from herseat up, but is restrained by the picture frame. Thiscreates a claustrophobic feel, as the character appears to be caged within the frame.

The Town (2010)

It’s just been a bank robbery and we finally seethe characters faces with the unmasking in the van.

This is the first time the audience see our charactersfaces, so we thought high intensive movement from the removal of the mask gives high intensity but also introduces the characters well.

This scene shows a medic from the filmdying. There is medium close-ups and close-ups used to emphasise the intensity.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

In our piece we use a similar shot to pull the audienceinto the intensity of not only what the character dyingis going through but also what the crew members are dealing with.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Another shot from the film showing the team work put in to help save this character. Everyonehad a hand on if as he is gradually slipping away. They use a medium to express this, to not only keepthe audience focused on the character in pain but toshow the contribution from the other characters.

We tried to portray the same feeling in our piece. We had our actors come round and surround ourdying character, to immerse not only the audiencebut the intensity, making the shot feel somewhat claustrophobic with the actors bodies in the way of the camera.

The Searchers

This has got to be one of the most famous entrancein cinema. The use of the medium long shot not onlyintroduces the character but introduces the charactersbody language / characteristics, and a lot can be toldjust by there stance.

Due to the power of our mafia character we had to havehim have a big entrance, so we used the same style as the westerns.

Snatch (2000)

We where originally inspired and somewhatplagiarised snatch’s opening titles, but its tooawesome. A really memorable and stylistic pieceof cinema, I had to take it for our piece. The title over an image worked great and it was different too just slapping it on black.

We slapped it on a freeze frame of a characters, to createnot only mystery but to follow the style in snatch’sopening title. We discussed in my group weather to have the freeze frames on the characters too but we decided that ittook the audience too much out from the action.
