How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary

texts?

Effectiveness

When creating a marketing campaign it needs to be effective to advertise the film to all of it’s target audience. A key way of doing this is the use of synergy. This is done by connecting the 3 products. For example using the same colours throughout or having the same tagline.

On the film poster, magazine front cover and the trailer the same font has been use throughout. This combines three products of the film which creates a better affect and a makes a more effective marketing campaign. The audience will associate the products together after seeing all the products with the same font.

The font in the trailer isn’t place in exactly the same place because we felt it looked better centred. However you can still see the resemblance and I think the audience will recognise this.

Synergy

Synergy I also used the same colours in all three products, which are red, white and grey/black. These are stereotypical colours of horror films. Dark colours like black and grey give the viewer a sense of the unknown which can be scary. Red is always associated with danger or death with is typical for a horror film.

Using the same colours makes the products which help with advertising of the film with is what the purpose for the products are. If a viewer saw the three colours they may associate them with the film.

Synergy

I used the same tagline on the magazine front cover and one of the transitions in the trailer.

By doing this the audience will see this on one product and associate it to another product they’ve seen connecting the products together.

Background

Another way I combined the products together was having the same background on the poster to the magazine front cover. I think this is a very effective element as the image of the woods is originally footage from the teaser trailer. This is something the audience will recognise.

This was the original photo from when we were filming the trailer in the woods. I then changed it to black and white.

Front cover

I also placed an image on the magazine cover of the film poster. Incase the audience is wondering where they’ve seen this film before, they might of seen the poster.

Improvement

• One way I could of made the combination of the products even more effective would be to use shots of the characters from the trailer on the poster and magazine front cover to connect the products even more. The audience would then associate an image they’ve seen on the poster for example to a clip they saw from the trailer.

Overall synergy

• These are visual things that allow the audience associate to the different products from the marketing campaign: film poster, magazine front cover and the teaser trailer. I’ve done this by placing the title of the film in the same or similar way. I also use the same colours throughout the three products. The magazine front cover and the trailer also have the same tagline.

Conclusion

• Overall I think the combination of my three media products are an effective market campaign. They include synergy which is a big part of combining the products. They are clearly combined with use of a colour scheme throughout the three products and have the same font in the title The Forgotten Ones.
