4Creating my Soap opera practice, preliminary task

To create my preliminary trailer, in a group of 6 we paired off and each looked at different scenes from Hollyoaks, writing down the script including camera work. We did this so we could recreate the scene for ourselves but following the Hollyoaks layout so we could see how a soap opera is filmed. I put my script and power point presentation onto my blog.

By copying the Hollyoaks scene this allowed us to practice using the cameras and understand how to edit raw footage in the software iMovie. It also helped us see the important camera angles and camera shots that are conventions of soap opera.

4Researching similar products

I used 4oD, the channel 4 online catch-up website to research the Hollyoaks scene used for my soap opera practice. I also used the search engine Google to find the 4od website.

I also used Google to research different soap magazines. I then used these to find the conventions of soap magazines. This way I could easily look at many magazine’s including ones that had now gone out of print.

I also used Google images to research billboard adverts at ease.

4Using SlideShare

To allow me to embed PowerPoint presentations into my blog, I uploaded them to slideshare.net. This allowed me to upload entire presentations in one post and keep my blog easy to read

4Using Blogspot

I used blogspot to upload all of my work before I started making my soap opera trailers so it was easily accessible to use in my planning. Using blogspot also kept everything in order.

4Using Keynote

I used Keynote on an Apple Mac to create my e4 title card in my soap opera trailer. To get the layout I copied the e4 logo from the e4 off air style guide. I then used the edit mask feature on keynote to edit the size of the logo according to the style guide.

I also used keynote to change the font to American Typewriter which is the font e4 uses.

4Using social networking sites

I used social networking sites such as Facebook to keep in touch with my group. We did this so that if someone changed one of our ancillary products we could then talk to each other about how we did it. We also used Facebook chat so that when we separated our group to each do a different ancillary we could confer to each other what we we’re doing.

I also used my college email to send drafts of my soap opera to my teacher to get feedback on how to improve it.
