EVALUATION
QUESTION 3What have you learnt from your audience
feedback?
The Target Audience• Earlier on in the blog, I posted
this photo which was complied by our group members on what our target audience would look like and/or be interested in. By compiling this we were able to make a list of things that we could include in our area to entice people into watching our film. However, our opinions on what they’d like are subjective so therefore we would need more information before we actually begin. This is why we also conducted an audience research video and a questionnaire as well using the information we gained from this.
Who are the target audience?
Before carrying out the questionnaire and audience survey, we already had a particular idea of who our target audience would consist of (with the help of the collage on the previous slide).
Our target audience may consist of males; between aged 18 to 25 years old; modern day Christians; live in the UK (part of the audience can be from America and Australia); mainly British White (it can be for all ethnicities). Their hobbies and interests may consist of them being technology enthusiasts (gadget collectors), food enthusiasts (especially meat products) and into sports.
There’s also the likelihood of them being wealthy and a bachelor.
Applying Survey Results
From the survey results, it shows that
Whatsapp is the most popularly used social
media app overall. So we applied this result to
obtain our audience feedback for our trailer.
Most of the feedback we did got back in return
were mainly through whatsapp since it was the
most easiest social media app to access as
well as being able to get an instant response.
The Questionnaire
• In the questionnaire we looked
at factors that would impact on
their choosing whether or not
to watch a film. For example
we asked what colours they
would look for in a slasher film
poster and the colours Red
and Black got more than 80%
of the votes as they provide
the obvious darker element
and message of our film.
Obviously red is associated
with blood so it therefore
gives us an idea that blood
may need feature in our trailer
to make it more enticing.
Blind Reaction of Audience with Feed
back
What we learnt from the blind reaction
feedback? The audience for the blind reaction consist of teenage guys (which is part of
our targeted demographic) with the exception of one female. So we recorded
their reactions as they were watching the trailer. Any body language or
dialogue throughout the reel can also suggest how good or bad the trailer is.
Doing a blind reaction feedback was a essential task to carry out with the
targeted demographic since before the production of the trailer was being
carried out; some people already knew the plot thus they were already
having thoughts of the outcome. So the people we asked to participate in
this audience feedback, they have said they haven’t heard the plot or seen of
the trailer during the post-production stages.
• We learnt that we have targeted the right demographic for the genre-
hybrid as there were loads of nods of approval throughout.
• Their expressions also clearly show that they’re tentatively paying
attention to the trailer so we were able to captivate their full attention.
• Most of the comments throughout were positive such as one commenting
on how the news-report scene did look quite realistic like BBC news.
Questioning Audience for Feedback
What we learnt from the questions of
the audience for feedback?After those that have been selected for the blind reaction watched the trailer;
we decided to ask them a few questions in addition to the commentary during
the trailer. We decided to do this in order to confirm that the genre was
executed correctly, the plot is understandable and also if there were any
suggestion on improvements for the trailer.
From the audience feedback for the questions, we learnt that:
• The main genre was clear and that was horror (since the stalker-slasher
genre would come underneath this category).
• The slasher elements that we chose to represent in our trailer were also
visible throughout. One of the comments were, “The blood, the violence,
the tension, the suspense.” The comment clearly states the conventions
that would be in a horror/slasher-feature film which our trailer is clearly
conveying to.
• One criticism we got a couple of times was that the scream at the end of
the trailer was too loud (and since it was high-pitched, it made it even
worse to hear).
