What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I believe that in the event our film was successful, the distribution company most likely to distribute our product would be warner brothers. This is because they have previously distributed films such as I am legend, this film shares similarities with our film and for that reason would do well if distributed by warner brothers.

Due to our film sharing similarities with previous post-apocalyptic movies distributed by warner brothers, the target audience of 15-25 year olds will be attracted to our film. Looking at the demographics of previous post-apocalyptic films by warner brothers, it is likely that the film would be very successful with our initial target audience. This would be attractive to warner brothers as it would create the most revenue for them

When our film was reaching the point where it was almost ready to be released, it is likely a teaser trailer would be released. What makes warner brother trailers effective is the fact that they alter their logo to match the style of the film they are shown before; here are a few examples of this

When seelcting the clips from the film for the trailer, the clips chosen would be the type of scnes that appeal most to the target audience of the film. For example due tio the film being posy apocalyptic, shots in the trailer could include things suggesting the reason for the apocal without giving too much away. The trailer would also include snippets of action. All tralers released by warner brothers can be found on the warner brothers youtube channel, here fans can watch the films and leave feedback. Also the trailer will get played before apropraite films at cinemas. This is usefull because they can play it before films of a similar genre. Automaticlly reaching out to the target audience.

When I conducted my research on distribution companies I did not consider warner brothers as a possible distributor for my product, however I now feel it is the most apropriate. I previously reserched paramount.

Paramount pictures is another company I looked into, however after watching clips and film openings from paramount, I felt that our film shared more silmilarities with the warner brothers films. We wanted to choose a distribution company that has already had success with films like ours. We felt that warner brothers had, and paramount had not done this.

Walt disney studios is the third distibution company I looked at to possibly distibute our product. We felt that trhis was a very poor option as walt disney mainly focus on light hearted films that share very few similarities with our film. This would mean a smaller amount of people would see our film if distributed by this company so would decrease revenue

A third film company looked into is ‘vertigo films’. They are an indipendant film distibution compant and would be effective in the case that our film does not take the world by storm but is intead, mainly succesfull in this country alone. We belive that vertigo films would allow our film to be succesfull in the UK due to their previous success with relativlly small budget british films. They include films such as ‘the football factory’ and ‘the sweeny’. These gritty british films share similiratities with our film which leads us to believe our film would share similar success.

To conclude, I feel that if our film was to make it big time. Warner brothers would definitely be the most apropriate distibution company. This was due to a combination of factors including their world wide influence as well as their previous success with films very simmilar to ours. However whilst our film is still relativlly small time, an indipendant film company like vertigo. This is because although I believe our film would see success with warner brother, veryigo films would be the better option to spread the film through the UK, which is more of a realistic option.
