Evaluation Question 1.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

As you can see I have followed the typical colour scheme of a typical R&b magazine which is white, black and red. I decided to use a male model and followed the mise-en-scene of R&B artist which is usually quite simple but seductive. I also added puffs which are usually circles that give information about content in the magazine, they are usually in pop magazines but I decided to give my magazine a twist to make it stand out. All the cover lines differ in size according to which are more important. I used a big bold masthead that contrasts with the background to stand out.

• Most R&B magazines have their mastheads located behind the artist which I managed to do in mine.

• All magazines have a barcode usually on the left side of the magazine which I used in my magazine.

• All the coverlines differ in size according to how important the story is.

• As you can see my contents page is clearly different from most r&b magazines which are usually quite simple and have one artist as I wanted to go against the typical conventions in or=der for my magazine to stand out. I got my inspiration from Q and Billboard magazine which usually have several artists on their contents page. I also added a note from the editor which most magazines tend not to do again this made my magazine stand out more.

I also got inspired by pop magazines where I link cover lines to page numbers as it looked really different.

• I also added a note from the editor which most magazines tend not to do again this made my magazine stand out more.

• Most R&B magazines usually have an artist take up a whole side of the double spread page followed by an article or interview in the other page however I wanted to include more pictures of the artist in order for the audience to get to know him better and included a biography about him. I also followed the rule of thirds in my magazine.

• My model is wearing a leather jacket which makes him look more masculine and gives of a bad boy image. He is also wearing red which makes him look seductive and it’s a colour you expect most r&b artists to wear.
