How does your media product

represent particular social groups?

My music magazine features pop music artists and is therefore has a pop music style to it. The magazine represents young people as the model is a teenager and all the celebrities mentioned are

quite young. The image and colour scheme suggest it is portrayed as a girly magazine rather

than for boys as it consists of pinks.

My model was based on these celebrities. After researching various celebrities I noticed that they all had a similar, natural,

wavy hairstyle which makes them look quite laid-back. I therefore styled my own models hair in a similar way.

Furthermore, each of their expressions is quite natural, so for my magazine the model is smiling subtly so the pose does not look too forced. The model for my cover has her hands in her pockets

which make her look quite unconcerned and relaxed. These qualities mean the model looks similar to well-known celebrities

and can therefore represent them and their styles.

The image shows a girl with quite a casual outfit that fits this music genre; it is not glamorous or rocky but quite relaxed and could therefore fit a few different

styles. The denim jacket makes her look less innocent as it contrasts with the floaty, flowery dress. The dress

does however, have a thick black zip down the front which makes it look less girly and sweet. Along with the

pose and way the model is styled, it ensures the magazine represents pop/ RnB music.

The Spin magazine title is thin and sophisticated with a feminine style, while the rolling stones magazine is

much bolder with a thick shadow making it appear more of a masculine font.

The titles I on my magazine all used the same font 'trajan pro' which I believe possesses feminine characteristics, portraying the

magazine as a female one.

Furthermore, the double page spread includes an interview which I wrote. The language is not too sophisticated that it would be

aimed at an older audience but reflects the way older teenagers speak, while the story is quite light and not too in depth. The

interview talks about social networking sites such as Twitter which are mainly used by teenagers, while celebrities such as Rihanna and Pixie Lott are mentioned - these are all known/ used by the

younger generation and would therefore appeal to them.
