Common conventions of existing magazine front page,Slogans:Slogans:It is a common feature that magazine covers feature their own slogan, this

slogan will be unique to the magazine and they will be featured on the cover to help promote their magazines for example on this ‘FILM’ cover, ‘The Modern Guide To Movies’ this is a good selling technique for magazines as it gives off a personal aspect of the magazine which will attract audiences to buy the magazine.

My magazine’s slogan:‘The Ultimate Guide To Movies’ is my own magazine’s slogan. I choose to

include this slogan to make my cover look more conventional, this aspect of the design of my cover conforms with the conventions of existing media products.

Common conventions of existing magazine covers:ImagesImages

On film magazine front pages, usually one main image will be seen on the cover, this image will be relevant to the film that is being featured in the magazine. The image will be large and take up the majority of the space on the cover. This image will help give audiences an idea of the narrative of the film that is being featured.

One main image being used.

The images used on my design:

For my own design, I used more than one image on my magazine, I used 3 images of all 3 of the main characters in my film. I did this because I thought it would help audiences create more of a narrative of the film if more images are featured, this is because if I used just one image, it would be difficult to establish a storyline. This aspect of my design challenges the conventions of existing magazinesthat are featuring romantic comedy films.

Common conventions of existing magazine covers:Features:Features:

On film magazine front pages it is common that other features of the magazine will be listed in some way on the design, this is to inform readers to what else they can expect to read about inside the magazine, the features will either be listed down the side of the page of in some cases dotted around the design.

Features of my own magazine: These are the features that I put onto my own magazine, these list a variety of different movies that will be featured in the magazine. I listed these towards the left hand side of my page in order for them to be clearly seen on the design. This aspect of my magazine design, conforms with the expectations of real existing magazine front covers

Common conventions of existing film magazine front pages:Titles: Titles: These are existing Empire and Film magazines, these titles are very bold and they stand out against the contrasting background, this is a common convention to film magazines, as the title needs to be the first thing that audiences see when they look at magazines, it is also common for them to be in bold colours either black or white, but sometimes other colours are used too, it depends greatly on the genre of the films that the particular magazine features.

My title:This is my own title of my magazine ‘Total Cinema’ I chose to put this text in a bold font to make sure it stands out and is eye-catching. When I got people to give me feedback on my magazine cover, they said to me that when they first looked at my cover, the title was the first thing that grabbed their attention. I also chose this font as I thought it linked well with the genre of my film as it's not too hard looking, it looks curved and softer than normal titles, this is because the magazine is featuring a romantic comedy film. This part of my magazine conforms with the conventions of normal magazine front covers that I have been researching.
