Wrecking

Ball

• Within Miley Cyrus’ song ‘Wrecking Ball’

the lyrics and the shot on the screen

interlink with each other showing to the

audience that they are related. For

example, the wrecking ball comes in the

shot demolishing a wall made for this

video. Coincidently, the use of Miley

singing the line; ‘You wreck me’, allows the

audience to pair both the lyric with the

image on the screen together.

Lorde – Record Label’s

image

• Lorde’s record labels; Lava Records,

Universal Music Group and Republic

Records, will have discussed with Lorde

what they want her video to portray

especially within the genre of music she is

in. This has allowed all the focus to be on

the artist and a small narrative to portray

the lyrics.

Katy Perry – Pop

Genre

• Katy Perry within her new song ‘ROAR’

appears wearing different outfits

throughout the video. The use of the outfit

getting less with volume allows her to

appear seductive for the audience also,

creating male gaze. This will allow Katy to

appeal to the male audience aswell as the

music appealing to the female.

Rhianna –

Intertexual

• In many artists videos they use

intertexuality to build upon an item within

their shots. For example Rhianna has

used a Porsche Turbo within her video to

show wealth within her lifestyle. This is

built upon by the house she drives away

from which allows the audience members

to immediately recognise the wealth

Rhianna has. We tried to carry this on in

our video with the car and the poker game.

Fergie -

Framing

• The use of framing is a major part within the music videos and that is why I have used Fergiesvideo as an example as it is clear the label want her to be the main focus of the video making her center of the screen. This takes the audiences attention away form everything else in the shot and we focus purely on the artist. We tried to take this framing technique and use the rule of thirds in our shots allowing LUNA to be main focus aswell as being center of the screen for close up and mid shots.

P!NK -

Lighting

• The lighting in this shot is clear to distinguish where our attention needs to be on. For example, in P!NK’s video the lighting around her is dark and full of dull colours then she is lit up by a bright spot light making her stand out in the shot. This links to the genre she is within due to the attention being solely on her and nothing else within these shots. We tried this when LUNA stood at the front door it allows all the attention to be on her looking for her boyfriend.

P!NK – Mise-en-

scene

• The teddy bear in this video is used not

only at the beginning but also at the end of

the video. This is important to recognise

as this is a recurrence within the video as

it’s a symbol of her childhood which she

keeps relating back to. This then

corresponds with the lyrics within her song

as it all about her previous experiences

which is then portrayed through the prop

of the teddy bear.

Kelly Clarkson – Use of

photo

• The use of the photograph allows the

audience to immediately have a sense of

her past within the song. This is evident in

Kelly Clarkson’s video where she is having

an argument with her husband and that’s

when the photo comes in to the video.

This was then adopted to be in our video

to give a clear sense of time they had

spent together.

Taylor Swift – School

Bus

• In Taylor Swifts song she uses a school

bus travelling to show a duration of time

has passed. We used this idea to then

allow it to be shown clearly that the

boyfriend has left and then time has

passed before he then goes to the night

with the boys playing the poker game and

drinking.
