Preliminary task Main product

During the process of making our main product, as a group we learned a lot of skills that made out final piece a lot better than it would of have been had we not known these things. We especially learnt a lot from doing the re-make of Arlington road. In this task we had to film and edit an opening sequence, in this process we learnt everything that we would need to do for our final piece. Our technical and creative skills improved massively and we learnt a lot that we didn’t know before.

EditingWe used final cut express to edit our work and learnt how to do it all in the process of editing Arlington Road. We learnt how to change the colours in the shot, and add different colour effects such as black and white, sepia, etc. we also learnt how to make transitions between each shot for example you can have it spinning into the next shot or sliding or just normal. It was also possible to change the brightness and the contrast of the image. There are also other effects and we practiced using these in our re-make so we could therefore get better use out of them in the final product.

TitlesTo do our titles, we used Live Type. We downloaded fonts from dafont.com and used them to make more unique titles that would stand out and fit our desired theme. Once downloaded we changed the time and duration in Live Type. We could also change the colours, add a shadow, change the thickness and size etc. we practiced doing this with some crazy fonts in Arlington Road then used more sophisticated and realistic and more effective fonts in Snatched.

Camera workWhen filming we had to make sure we used the 180degrees rule. We made sure this was in place in each of our shots so they worked effectively. We also had to use match on action to make out shots run smoothly into one an other. This is an example of continuity editing and we needed to use it when filming the scene of the kidnap and also when Chloe is walking to make it all run smoothly. In Arlington Road we made mistakes in these areas but learnt from them and made sure they didn’t happen in our final piece.

In this shot it shows Chloe appearing after walking in from the previous shot, we had to make sure the match on action was good here otherwise it would look unrealistic.
