In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Films like V for Vendetta influenced our film as the character the main character uses a mask to cover up his face as does one of the two characters does. We felt like the mask is very intimidating in V for Vendetta and may have been someone who people would have recognized therefor wanting to cover up their identity like batman. We hopefully involved this element in our film well. Films like Fargo influenced the film in such ways as, Fargo is set in an area that you wouldn’t expect these events to happen but it did. Our film is in an area where you wouldn’t expect someone to be attached and kidnapped. The expressions of the characters face and how relaxed he is suggest that he would never of thought this either. Films like Chopper had a great opening sequence. In particular Choppers opening had a lot of shadows which where used very well and gave a good atmosphere. We used this in our film to hopefully set up a good atmosphere for the next upcoming event. The sound during this film developed typical conventions as it built the tension at the correct moments and created a huge suspense to the main event to the film. This sound goes with the typical thriller conventions because it does this well and creates an immersive effect on the audience. How does your media product represent particular social groups? In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?Films like V for Vendetta influenced our film as the character the main character uses a mask to cover up his face as does one of the two characters does. How does your media product represent particular social groups? In our media product there are only two characters, which are the main character that wants to film his project. And the other character is the villain who keeps his face hidden behind a gas mask for the whole duration of the film. The main character is a normal school boy who dresses himself in normal clothes and is not scruffy as he is middle class. This shows that he is just a standard person like many people who would watch this film so that the audience would feel like they have similarity’s with the character and would feel like this could happen to anyone not just this person. This person is average size white male like most male people in Northamptonshire. The villain however is wearing scruffy cloths and doesn’t dress himself in smart or average cloths so he stands out from the rest. He is suspected to be a lower class than the main character and may be a reason for targeting him. The villain is again a white male who is suspected to be from the area, as he knows where he is going. His mask however covers up most of his face so we cant tell what he looks like this doesn’t allow us to tell where he is from for sure. This makes him more mysterious.

What kind of media institute might distribute your media product and why?To get my film to be seen by the public I would need to put my film on a YouTube channel I would then go and post this on Facebook and twitter. I can even post it on my blog, which I would do to get more people to view it. I could ask people that I know who have more subscribers than I do to post the link in there video to promote the film. However if I was going to try to get producing companies to view my film and publish it I would talk to companies like warp films and working title. First I would need to get into contact with them via email or phone. Companies like this would be more likely to publish my film than companies such as Disney and warner bros as they don’t release thriller films. A company that would good to publish my film would be a company called hammer film productions. This company releases thriller films as well as horror films. This is very good as my film has aspects of horror in it. I could get my film more popular by advertising it in cinema screens so people would want to go and watch it. I would do this by advertising it to people who are watching a film that is a thriller so that it would appeal to people whom like that category of film. Films like taken and the women in black. I could also get advisement on the Internet when people search up particular popular thriller films. I would do this so that more people who like thrillers would see my film and be more inclined to watch it.

Who would be the audience for your media product? The majority of the people who answered our survey monkey where our age. From research on the Internet we found that the people aged 12-39 are the age range where the majority of people go to the cinema. So we decide to aim our film at the younger ages in this range from 15+ we have done this as we can relate to our audience.

AGE PERCENTAGEOF MOVIEGOERS

PERCENTAGEOF POPULATION

2-11 9% 14%

12-17 18% 8%

18-24 21% 10%

25-39 22% 21%

40-49 10% 15%

50-59 8% 14%

60+ 12% 18%

How did you attract/address your audience? To attract our audience we had younger actors to make it appeal it the younger generation. We didn’t have much dialog so it hopefully made the film be understood better. To create a film in the genre of thriller we used a website BFI index. This gave us figures on who watch thriller films. Like the ages that usually go to see thriller films. The average age was 20-30. However there are people who are teens. By having younger actors we hopefully manage to make our film appeal to both these age groups.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?During this project I have learnt a lot about digital cameras, camera angle and shot types, movement and editing. Digital cameras are easy enough to use when shooting a scene the camera needs to be very steady to get a good scene that is very clear and not shaky. If the camera shakes you could end up with a piece of film where you cant see what is happening properly then get distracted from the overall goal in the film and then make the audience thinking negative things of the overall film (A tripod can with this problem.) This is similar to the quality of the camera, unfortunately we were using camera that did not have a great quality. Filming with a camera with better quality will change the feel of the film massively. When shooting the film the different camera angle and shot types helped improve the film, as there was a variety of these that kept the film interesting and new. Shot types that are closer up to the character help us as they give a different view and perspective of the events. For example we had a close up shot of the main character when he suspected that he was being followed. This allowed us to show his facial expressions so when he shrugged it off the audience have suspicions themselves that he is actually being followed. Long shots and extreme long shots allow the audience to see the surrounding environment. This could be used for different things like isolation like in the film gravity when the astronaut gets separated or like in the film rocky 4 at the end of the training montage when you see what the character has managed to climb up so you, the audience, can get a better perspective of the surroundings. During our film we changed the perspective of the film so the main character actually films himself when he’s attacked. This is good as we managed to gets several different film shots and angles in a short period of time which allowed us to create a sense of shock when this happens. All in all I found out that using a verity of camera shot and angles varies the film and keeps it interesting.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?Looking back on my preliminary task I felt like my group have improved. I felt like we improved our ability to plan and carry out the film adding more aspects to our final film than we did in our preliminary. For example the sound, in our preliminary task we didn’t have a sound track to it even though we had more speech in it we should have had a something playing at the start or at the finish or even both, whereas in our final film we used sound to build tension and suspense instead of speech which worked better for a thriller film. Another example of this is the editing. We had very standard editing for our preliminary task that consisted of putting clips together. But when we edited the film we did the same but cut clips down and put another clip to play in between that one clip as

after we finished filming we decided that one part of the film needed to be tweaked. This is about 1 minute 5 seconds into the film to 1 minute 10 seconds. We also had to edit different record symbols onto some of the shots because we had to symbol the difference between the character filming himself and not.

To get us all to agree on the decisions that we made wasn’t that difficult as we agreed on most of it. Even things that we didn’t agree on were ok as we came to compromises with no difficulty either. We came to decision like the location of the film. We came to a decision that the location would be at crick because that was the location of a group member and it would be a suitable location for our chosen idea. The chosen idea was a compromise of a couple of ideas that we

had combined into one. All in all I feel that the preliminary task was good for my group as it aloud us to better our actual film.
