An establishing shot is key to the opening sequence to give the viewers an idea into where the movie will be set. This is shown from the panning shot which sets the scene as the house for the Opening Sequence and throughout the movie.

It is important in the Opening Sequence to show the characters which will feature throughout the movie. I have introduced them to the protagonist, Jordan, and antagonists Sam and Luke during the opening which is a key characteristic of Opening Sequences in general. I have focused predominately on Jordan and Sam which signifies their importance in the sequence and in the movie.

After watching the Opening to Welcome to the Punch and sections from Taken. We decided to include a dramatic Opening to really put viewers on the edge. We also really enjoyed the style of Memento, even though it is from a different genre we really enjoyed the style of the reverse narrative. We therefore decided to include a glimpse to this with our Opening being based several years in the future to the rest of the movie.

We decided to make an Action –Thriller movie very similar to films such as Taken. We believed this would be an exciting genre to reproduce. We represented many aspects of this genre in our Opening. The use of guns and balaclavas as guns are key in this genre and we have matched it in our Opening. The use of a chase scene is also representative to the genre.

In order to create our own Visual Style to our film we have decided to use balaclavas and guns. The dark lighting effect helps create a very realistic effect as it portrays the darkened thoughts of the criminals we have portrayed. These effects would all be used again through later productions from the studio in order to create this visual style as a standard.

Throughout the Opening Sequence we are put on the protagonists side. We are made to feel sorry for the woman and Jordan who have been vandalised throughout this sequence. We are placed on the protagonists side and this will be shown throughout the rest of the movie when we follow what has led up to this moment.

We will see it from the protagonist view later in the movie.
