Switzerland , also known as Swiss confederation, is a european country (Central Europe ) that limites Germany to the north,France to the west, Italy to the south and Austria to the east. The capital city is Bern.

Switzerland has the Alps on the south and west by the Jura. The Swiss Plateau or broke Mittelland is between the two.

The Alps have a number of peaks over 4000 meters and occupy more territory, going from Mont Blanc to the Ortler.

Mittelland goes from Lake Geneva southwest to northeast Lake Constance. "Pink Mountain“ or Dufour peak is the highest mountain in Switzerland The main summit

with 4,634 m.

Switzerland has four basins. The basin of the river Rhine and Rhone (that are older), Damibio river basin and the basin of the river Po. The Swiss just draining rivers in the North Sea (Rin ,Aar), in the Mediterranean Sea (Rhone) in the black sea (Eno) or in the Adriatic Sea (Tesine).The river Aar is the longest river with a length of 795 km.

Switzerland has 26 provinces, that are called cantons , six of the cantons are half cantons that have been divided from three original cantons.The name of the differents cantons are Zürich ( is the most populated canton ), Bern ( is the capital of Switzerland)., Luzern, Uri, Schwyz ,Obwalden, Nidwalden, Glarus , Zug, Fribourg, Solothurn, Basel- Stadt ,Basel- Landschaft, Schaffhausen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, St. Gallen, Graubünden, Aargau, Thurgau , Ticino , Vaud , Valais , Neuchâtel , Geneva , Jura. Each canton has its own constitution, and its own parliament, government and courts.However, there are considerable differences between the individual cantons.

• Switzerland is almost a direct democracy and multi-party federal parliamentary republic. . Executive power is exercised by the Federal Government and Administration. The Federal Legislative lies with the government and the two chambers of the Federal Assembly. To make changes in the constitution is necessary to do a referendum (citizens may challenge any law.)

• The Federal Council is the executive organ of Switzerland.

• President Didier Burkhalter in ( PLR) the radical liberal party. On 4 December 2013 he was elected as President of the Swiss Confederation for the 2014 ( with 183 of the available 222 votes of the Federal Assembly). The President of the Confederation is the presiding member of the seven-member Swiss Federal Council. Elected by the Federal Assembly for one year. The President has no powers over and above the other six Councillors .The duty rotates among the members in order of seniority and the previous year's Vice President becomes President.

The prime minister or chancellor is Corina Casanova found in office since 1 January of two thousand eight, being the second woman to hold the post. It is functions are equivalent to those of a general secretary of the government. (PDCS) is a Christian democratic party founded in 1845. The Federal Chancellor is the head of the Federal Chancellery of Switzerland, which acts as the general staff of the seven-member Federal Council. The Swiss Chancellor is not a member of the government, her charge is higher. The federal Chancellor is elected for a four-year term by the federal Assembly, at the same time as they elect the

Federal. She was elected on 12 December 2007.

• Swiss culture is influenced by the neighboring countries, but through the years has developed a distinct and independent culture. The Swiss are known for their humanitarian work, as it was in Switzerland where the movement was born of the Red Cross and home to the Human Rights Council of the United Nations

• Switzerland is a region that has a close cultural connection to the neighboring country.

• Swiss art has a rich traditional architecture and folklore. Swiss has big thinkers and artists such as:

-The painter : Paul Klee. - The novelist : Max Frisch.

-Paracelsus the founder of modern medical science

• Switzerland comprises four main linguistic and cultural regions : German , French, Italian and Romansh that it´s speaking in valleys. The principally is German spiking by 65.3% of total population.

• Alpine symbolism has played an essential role is shaping the history of the country and the Swiss national identity. Nowadays, some concentrated mountain areas have a strong highly energetic ski resort culture in winter and a hiking or mountain biking culture in summer.

• The alphorn, is a trumpet-like musical instrument made of wood. It has become an emblem of traditional Swiss music.
