Teachers Training

Teacher-training workshops will cover available material, resources, effective techniques and will be multidisciplinary, with input from diverse experts in diverse disciplines, including astronomy and space sciences, science education and childhood development.

The opportunity to participate in the teacher training programme will be advertised as widely as possible in each member country through national school networks (e.g. VTB in the Netherlands), local and provincial school authorities, teachers associations, observatories and personal contacts.

The National Project Manager will collect applications and select the participants in consultation with the National Coordinator.

Page 21: EUNAWE Project Management

Teachers Training

Participating schools will be selected on the basis of:• strong support for the teachers involved by the school board,• low teacher turnover to ensure continuity and success of the

programme throughout the two implementation years• wide geographical spread and• emphasis on underprivileged children

The teachers themselves must also demonstrate a level of enthusiasm or the project. Schools and teachers must commit to using the resources and methods in the classroom, thereby reaching a large number of young children, and to actively contribute to the evaluation of the programme.

The workshop formats and content will conform to the requirements of the local educational authorities, so that where possible, the professional development of the teachers will be officially recognised.
