English proficiency exam

• Required by most law schools for whom English is not their native language • TOEFL or IELTS Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or

the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).• Applicant´s responsibility to identify which of the schools of interest to you

require this test. • Each school sets its own standard for required minimal scores on the tests.• LSAC will accept score reports for either TOEFL or IELTS exams. • LSAC will include your score(s) in your LLM credential evaluation upon receipt

of an official score report from the testing service. • LSAC can receive TOEFL score(s) electronically- to do so you must supply ETS

with LSAC’s institution code, 8395.

Page 17: Estudia una maestría en Derecho en Estados Unidos

Official Records How to Have Transcripts Sent• You must use LSAC’s Transcript Request Form (TRF) • Send a TRF to each of the postsecondary institutions you have attended, regardless of

whether or not a degree was completed. • Have each institution complete the form and return it to us by mail, along with your

official transcript/mark sheet/academic record.

All documents must be received in a sealed institution envelope from the issuing institution, with an institution stamp or seal across the sealed flap.

If an international institution issues only one “original” to the student, then LSAC will accept a certified copy of the transcript, but it must be certified by the issuing institution as a true and correct copy of the original with official stamp/seal of institution

If you have records from education completed outside of the United States, all of your attested documents from the issuing institution must be submitted in the original language. If the transcripts or other required documents are not in English, a translation must

be forwarded. English translations do not need to be certified, may be completed by you, and may be sent separately from the transcript if necessary.

Letters of Recommendation A letter of recommendation discusses the qualities and characteristics of the applicant’s ability, academic and otherwise, to study law.

Use of LSAC’s LOR service is optional unless a law school to which you are applying requires its use but allows you to use your LLM account to have your LORs sent to law schools based on each school’s requirements.

• Should be written by people that know you will• Usually require 2-3 letters• Can be addressed to “Admissions Committee”
