Thematic Areas

Page 6: Esa Km Networks Presentation Final

Current Status Cont..

Survey showed a gap between the need to access knowledge and grass-root availability of knowledge to share.

E.g., while 89.8% needed lessons learned for their daily work, only 38.8% generated lessons learned.

Opportunities & Challenges

Country office and direct supervision by IFAD is expected to improve the learning

Regional implementation workshop has facilitated some networking between programme

Every thematic group have worked independently hence no learning across the thematic areas

Learning across country programmes has not been there but improving now

Page 8: Esa Km Networks Presentation Final

Lessons Learnt

Set up a joint web-based platform in the form of IFADAfrica – each community have developed their own site – need for a one stop KM shop

Process documentation to bring out the lessons learnt for knowledge sharing within the region and develop a competitive process of selecting the best lesson to be uploaded to the poverty portal.

Page 9: Esa Km Networks Presentation Final

Lessons Learnt Cont..

Cross learning between the thematic communities along the areas of common interest

Possible cross learning with sister organization FIDAfrique through joint knowledge sharing along the thematic areas, exchange visits, linkage and synergy

Support and promotion for discussion forum moderators for each of the community of practice to encourage knowledge sharing

Page 10: Esa Km Networks Presentation Final

Lessons Learnt Cont..

Need to financially support international technical assistance to the community of practice as and when required (on a need basis)

Assist the programme develop communication strategy in order to effectively implement their activities

Provide for translation of key learning documents to be made available to a wider audience in Africa

Sustainability of Network

User driven, inclusive, bottom-up organically growing knowledge management network based on a system development

Move away from an organization-centred KM systems to pooling knowledge in a broader and more inclusive way

Generate and/or co-produce knowledge to share costs

Page 12: Esa Km Networks Presentation Final

Sustainability Cont…

Facilitate the building of partnerships, linkages and synergies

Foster bottom-up conversations Keep knowledge creation close to the knowledge

creators/owners Resource mobilization from broad base of
