What are we trying to do today?

Explore ways ICT can enhance Enterprise Education Provide hands-on opportunities to try out some ICT

activities which could be used to support Enterprise Education: ICT for planning, advertising, recording, and presenting. Use of templates and pre-created files in programs available

on primary networks. Use of scanner, digital camera and image manipulation

software. Online questionnaire/polling facilities. Online resources and exemplars.

What is Enterprise in Education?

Enterprise in education will equip pupils with the skills and values to contribute meaningfully to the Scottish economy and society and will prepare them for the role of global citizens of the twenty-first century. It can be broadly defined as: opportunities to think and act in enterprising ways across the

curriculum an emphasis on core skills and the ability to transfer these to

different contexts learning and teaching which encourages positive attitudes and

develops skills such as problem solving, decision making, creativity and risk evaluating

entrepreneurial experience career education which promotes knowledge and

understanding of the world of work and includes a focus on work experience

development of a culture of lifelong learning.

What is Enterprising Teaching & Learning?

Enterprising teaching features include: the use of authentic 'real-life' contexts in direct teaching

situations active learning formative assessment techniques, collaborative cross-curricular and cross-sector working Long-term planning to ensure progression.

Enterprise learning features include: the development of critical thinking skills, learner ownership, experiential learning, cooperative activities reflection on learning.

Open Powerpoint – click on File – new – choose Templates On My Computer from side panel

Choose Presentations tab (or Templates on Office Online if alternatives are sought) – select Brainstorming – OK.

Creating Planning Diagram in Word

Open Microsoft Word or RM Talking First Word.

Click on View – Toolbars – Drawing. Drawing toolbar will appear along the

bottom of the screen. Click on Autoshapes – Block Arrows. Drag chosen shape to desired size.

Shape can be adjusted by pulling white or yellow handles

Right-click on the shape and choose add text. Right click on edge of a shape and

choose Format AutoShape to adjust colours and thickness of lines.

This can also be created in Powerpoint

Choose from various templates, e.g. The Question Wheel.

Finding Microsoft Word templates

Microsoft Word can be used to create: Brochures Newsletters Greetings cards Posters Event tickets Calendars Certificates

Go to http://office.microsoft.com then templates to download selected template.

To open templates in Word go to File – New – then select Templates On My Computer from panel.

Finding Microsoft Publisher templates

In addition to those document types which can be created in Microsoft Word Microsoft Publisher can be used to create banners and posters spanning multiple pages.

Most can be accessed by opening Microsoft Publisher and clicking on File – New – Publications for Print.

Additional templates can also be found at http://office.microsoft.com then templates to download selected template.

Change size of any Publisher document by clicking on File – Page Setup.

RM Number Magic Spreadsheets

Choose Blue level to access pre-created spreadsheets in RM Number Magic.

Click on Exercises folder. Browse through pre-created curricular

spreadsheets. Each spreadsheet can be used as a

ready-made activity or provides a model which can be adapted as required by pupils for their own enterprise activity If using a pre-created spreadsheet as

basis for new spreadsheet then go to File – Save – and choose to save file as a new file into a different folder - give copy spreadsheet a new name – save in own My Documents folder.

Example spreadsheets already have formulae included for pupils to work out alternative options. Pupils can see any formula used

by clicking on any answer cell.

Each spreadsheet also has an associated worksheet

RM Colour Magic for creating eye-catching images

Open RM Colour Magic in Red Level for greatest range of tools.

Photograph or scanned image can form basis of a logo Click on File – select source – choose camera,

webcam or scanner Then acquire image to load image into Colour Magic.

Remove unwanted parts of picture with eraser tool.

Add special effects to image Click on Image menu – Colour Effects or Image

Inserting Images into Microsoft Word

Insert images into Microsoft Word or RM Talking First Word by clicking on Insert – Image – From File.

Text wrapping choice must be made before you can do any other image manipulation. This allows you to make the text “wrap” around the picture in a variety of ways.

Spreadsheet templates in Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel has many pre-created templates for enterprise activities

Go to http://office.microsoft.com and choose Templates tab then Budgets in template categories.

Steps to change any spreadsheet from another currency (most are in shown in US Dollars) to UK pounds:1. Click on letter at top of each column showing

currency. This will highlight column.2. Click on Format – Cells.3. Click on Number tab – choose currency4. Ensure decimal places box shows 2.5. Choose £ symbol in symbol choice box.6. Select Negative numbers to show red.7. Click OK

Using an Online Presence for publicity and feedback

• Use web-creation resource (e.g. primarybolgger.co.uk)

• Create Online Questionnaire / polls for gathering feedback or statistics with Think.com tools (or Surveymonkey.com).

Why podcasting?

Create audio recordings of pupil-created musical advertising jingles, or news reports.

The recording can be edited unwanted sections can be cut out, different parts

copied or cut and pasted into different sequence.

The files can be exported from Audacity as an mp3 file for adding to a website for later downloading by

pupils or parents.

Creating a jingle in Audacity

Find suitable free royalty-free music track loops online and save to your My Documents (these can be found at www.partnersinrhyme.com). Audacity will import wav files and midi files.

In Audacity ensure a microphone is connected then record your voice message.

Click on Project – import audio (or import midi if a midi file used).

This will show as a second track beneath the voice track.

Click on Envelope tool then click and drag on music track to reduce the volume of the music when the voice is speaking.

Creating mp3 file from Audacity file

Click on File – Export as mp3 Save in your My Documents folder. This can be uploaded to webpage, school website or

other blog Remember to save Audacity file you have created as

an Audacity file so it can be edited later (Audacity cannot edit mp3 files once they have been exported).
