Entering a reference manually in EndNote

2

Sometimes, you might need to enter a reference into EndNote manually, if it isn’t available electronically. To do this, click on the ‘New Reference’ button at the top of the screen.

3

This will take you to a blank form. The first step is to pick the kind of resource you are using from the drop-down menu (The example used here will be a book)

4

You can then start entering the rest of the information about your resource, by clicking in the space under the headings and typing (you won’t necessarily have information for all of the headings, don’t worry about leaving them blank)

5

Once you have finished your reference, either go to ‘File’ and then ‘Save’ or click on the cross in the top right corner of the window to save the reference.

6

The reference will now appear in your ‘All References’ list and can be moved into groups as needed.
