Microsoft has unveiled free Windows 8.1 update

It’s an free update of windows 8 from microsoft for all windows 8 & windows RT existent users

Its not an operating system, just an update

What is windows 8.1 ?

1. Microsoft announced windows 8.1 update, previously code name ‘blue’, in July 4, 2013.

2. This update is free for all win 8 & win RT existing customers & has released in July 26, 2013.

3. Microsoft has sold over 100 million copies of win 8 since launch, but it has not been as popular as it had hoped.

4. Windows 8.1 has a brand new networking interface with many new & useful features.

5. Microsoft made their security & management system more reliable in new 8.1 update.

3. Native miracast wireless display compatibility

4. Broadband tethering

5. Auto-triggered VPN

on the networking front, new Blue features include:

1. More authentication options

2. Additional Defender and IE functionality

3. Improved biometric

in the security area, Blue has added:

1. Start Screen lock-down for company-issued devices

2. Remote business data removal

3. Open MDM support (mobile device management)

4. Workplace Join

5. Assigned Access

in terms of management, new Blue features include:

1. The user interface wasn’t friendly, so users couldn’t take is easily

2. It wasn’t as popular as it had hoped

3. Adoption gap of win 8 was so low between microsoft previous operating systems

5. One of the main disadvantage was system auto rebooted several time while working

6. There wasn’t any ‘close’ button


7. No anti-virus support

8. Apps works only in the full monitor

9. Some programs are not yet compatible with it, suce as drivers, hardwares …..

How to install windows 8.1 updateAs update

Download ISO file from windows 8.1 preview page from microsoft website, double-click on setup.exe

This will give you a clean setup of windows 8.1, backup your data before this.

ISO files of 32 bit is 2.8 GB & 64 bit is 3.8 GB of windows 8.1 in English, no bangla support yet.

Clean setup can be given from flash drive too.
