Movies are one of the daily routine for the movie lovers. They can spend lots of times on it.
The movie genre that i had selected is sciencefiction films. Science fiction films are the films
that are usually drawn imaginatively on scientific knowledge and speculation in the whole of
the films. Divergent, Maze Runner, Hunger Games and Captain America are some of the
example of science fiction films. The movies that I had chosen are Divergent and Maze
Runner. Divergent is the story about Tris discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and Four
must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late. However, Maze Runner is
the story about Thomas, who is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased,
they are all trapped in a maze that will require him to join with the runners to escape the maze.
I prefer the film Divergent than Maze Runner because Divergent is more interesting based on
the theme, plot, setting and the scoundrel.
First and foremost, Divergent movie plays a theme of love while Maze Runner plays a theme
of bravery. Theme of love in Divergent plays between Tris and Four. When Tris is attacks by Al
because of the ranking, Four helps Tris to fight back and saved Tris from danger. After the
fight, Four helps Tris to clean the wound and gave Tris his cloth. Besides that, Four offers Tris,
his bed and stay at his place to avoid others to hurt Tris. Because of love, Four helps Tris to
pass her psychological stimulation test which is the hardest part in the training. For the movie
Maze Runner, bravery is played by Thomas. Thomas is brave because he ran into the Maze
when the door is about to close when nightfall while Minho and Alby are still inside the Maze.
According to the record, no one can survive inside the Maze once the door is closed. Thomas
killed one of the Griever by tricking it into a small gap which the doors are about to close and
the Griever is crushed in the end. Thomas is brave as he lead some people to get out of the
Maze and fight with the Grievers.
Secondly, the plot of the movies made every movie unique. Divergent start with the society
with five factions which are candor, amity, dauntless, erudite and abnegation. Beatrice
chooses Dauntless faction and she changed her name to Tris. Tris pass her Dauntless test
with the help of Four. Divergents are not affected by the serum which supplied by Erudite. Tris
uses a sample of the mind control serum on the leader to force her to cancel the program. The
group escapes the place and boards a train out of the city. The Maze Runner movie starts with

the story of Thomas with no memory of his identity. No one has ever survived a night inside
the Maze. Thomas kills a Griever by tricking it into a narrow, closing passageway which cause
the Griever crushed. Most of the people are agreeing to free Thomas and attempt to escape
the Maze, but Gally and a few others refuse to leave. They escaped the Maze by fighting with
the Grievers and eventually enter a laboratory. Masked armed men rushed in and take the
group to a helicopter which the helicopter is approaching a ruined city.
Next, scoundrels play important role in the science fiction films. The head of the scoundrels
for Divergent and Maze Runner films is both woman, but they use different way to control their
people. For the Divergent, all the Dauntless is injected with a serum which is used to control
the mind of the Dauntless. The scoundrels control Dauntless by using a high technology
computer system to kill the Abnegation. At last, Tris forced the woman to turn off the system by
using a sample of mind controlling serum and she saved the Dauntless and Abnegation. For
the Maze Runner, the scoundrels control the Glader by sending them to the Glade without any
memory with them. Gladers are told to stay at the place as no one can go out from the Maze.
Runners need to find the way out and they are almost trapped when they attacked one of the
Grievers. At last, Minho and Thomas found the way out and bring some followers with them to
escape the Maze. Masked armed men brought them away and they are informed that they are
involved in phase two.
Last but not least, setting in Divergent is more realistic than Maze Runner. Most of
Divergent scene takes place in Chicago. Chicago is the city walled with armed guards that
seem to be keeping people in the city. This city is divided into five different factions which are
Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. Each of the factions has their own roles in
the city to keep the city peacefully. Teens who reach the age of 16 must undergo an aptitude
test and choose one faction on the Choosing Ceremony day based on the result obtained. On
the other hand, most of the Maze Runner’s scenes take place at the Glade and the Maze. The
Glade is the place where all the Glader are living together and having a daily routine. All of
them have the same goal which is to escape from that place. The Maze is the place where
only runners can go in and it is full of Grievers. Many people trapped inside the Maze and no
one can survive once they are stung by the Grievers such as Ben and Alby.

In the nutshell, I prefer more Divergent than Maze Runner because of the theme, plot,
setting and scoundrels. Divergent is more interesting to me as I prefer action films. Besides
that, Divergent series film is the first choice for me every time. Divergent series includes
Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant and Four. I will prefer watching Divergent compared to my
friends and family members.
