2. Diomedes, inspired by Athene, goes on a killing spree He kills Pandarus He wounds Aeneas He wounds Aphrodite He wounds Ares 3. Athene and Diomedes 4. Athene and Diomedes attack Aeneas 5. Aphrodite rescues her wounded son Aeneas 6. Aphrodite, wounded in the hand by Diomedes, climbs aboard a chariot 7. Aphrodite and Hera return to Mt. Olympus 8. Diomedes continues killing Trojans until Hector and Ares push the Greeks back 9. Diomedes wounds Ares as the Greeks and their Gods retreat 10. Diomedes attacks Ares while Athene drives chariot 11. Book VI Hector heads back to Troy to tell the women to propitiate Athene 12. Diomedes meets Glaucos on the field of battle; they discover xenia exists among their families, agree not to fight, and exchange armor 13. Hector reaches Troy and tells his mother to organize the women 14. Hector goes to find Paris, and scolds him for lolling around with Helen 15. Hector calls Paris to battle 16. Hector finds his wife, Andromache, with their son on the battlements 17. Andromache begs Hector to stay out of the fighting 18. But Hector chooses duty over personal desire 19. Book VII Back on the battlefield, Hector challenges the Greeks to produce a champion to fight him 20. The Greeks draw lots, and Ajax wins 21. The fight is called on account of darkness The two warriors exchange gifts Everyone feasts Nestor convinces the Greeks to build a little wall while the troops have a truce to bury the dead bodies 22. Poseidon is angered by the wall, but Zeus promises it will be destroyed when the war is over 23. Book VIII Zeus orders the gods to stay out of battle, then retires to Mt. Ida 24. Zeus scales favor the Trojans 25. The Trojans push towards the ships of the Achaeans Hera and Athene try to intervene, bu t Zeus threatens them with severe punishment 26. The Trojans are so successful that, for the first time in the war, they spend the night outside the city, setting up watch fires on the plain
