TJ Patty Villacorta- Melendreras
• Gerunds and Infinitives are words that look like verbs, but they are NOT verbs.
• They do different things, among them:• - Name an activity-
Dancing / To dance
Tips to help us decide:
If a verb represents an emotional activity (feelings/emotions)Prefer the use of a “gerund”
If a verb represents a mental activity, prefer the use of an infinitive.
Some verbs accept both!
Important!
• Some verbs although they can be used after both gerunds and infinitives have a difference in meaning
What is the difference here?
• I stopped to smoke yesterday.
• I stopped smoking yesterday.
infinitive
gerund
When there is a position of “authority” over the doer of the activity!
