#1: Creating a Group Set for Imports

1. Mainly to mimic exactly the names of the folders and sub sets in its original state.

1. I have inserted a new PDF into the folder, “Sargeant-2013-Rhabdomyolysis and d.pdf”, because

of the “Enable automatic importing” function activated on “My Sample PDFs” folder,

Endnote will automatically check for new imports under this folder, and named it as Imported.

Due to the creation of a new folder, “Imported”, it will also not create confusion to the original

sub set folders

You could specify your saved path of full text to this particular folder as well. It will save you

time in organising and locating them.

#2: Hide of Rating Field

1. Feedbacks were previously made by user, they do not want to see the rating at the top, they

would prefer to see the author names first.

Now you can choose to hide the “Rating Field” now.

2. You can also choose to rearrange your fields by dragging it to your desired position.

Creating your own referencing style

1. Choose a default referencing style first

a. E.g. Harvard

2. Proceed to “Edit Havard”

3. You can choose to rename your style name, by going to “Save As”

4. Go to “Categories”, to set “headers” for your referencing list

5. After configuration of your new style, go back to EndNote

6. Highlight your references, select “Insert Citation”, remember to open a Microsoft word

document first

1. You can choose to do customization of your referencing headers at Microsoft Word

2. Select “Group References By Custom Categories”

3. The referencing list below is without any formatting, that is the reason you are seeing

“Uncategorized References”

#6: Instant Formatting On/Off

1. If “Instant Formatting” is on, and you are generally working on a very big document, this will

slow down the rate of your typing.

Such cases, you can choose to off the “Instant Formatting”, and turn it on again when you are

done with your work.

Remember to “Update Citations and Bibiliography function”.

2. Alternatively, you can choose to format the setting of the citation updates in your document.

#7: PowerPoint Citation Insertion

1. With EndNote X7, you will be able to insert citation into PowerPoint.

2. In text citation and reference list will not be dynamically appearing together.

3. *Important, set your referencing style first before you insert them, if not you can’t revert them

dynamically once inserted

*Referencing style did not change from Harvard to Numbered

2. EndNote Basic - store up to 50,000 references, 2GB and 21 output styles, 6 groups sharing and 9

different types of import filters. Not much customization.
