EME 5405:

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

ABOUT ME: • Hi Everyone! I’m excited to virtually

meet you all and introduce myself. My name is Altina Fenelon-Silva. I work in Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) in Jacksonville, FL as a Professional Development (PD) Specialist. I’ve worked in the district for about 5 years and transitioned about two years ago as a 1st grade teacher. I have experience teaching primary, intermediate, and middle grade levels. I attended UF as an undergraduate and I’m very proud of my alma mater. I’m excited to be a double gator soon!

Why Enroll in this Course? • Every day I wake up with the mindset

of learning something new each day. As a graduate student in the TLSI program, it has been my personal goal to learn how to research, design new curriculum, technologies and even media to deliver powerful instruction and promote engaged learning within my person context and to support our instructional leaders in DCPS.

Previous Experience with TechnologyThroughout my teaching career, I’ve always tried to find creative ways to integrate technology in the classroom either with our blended learning platform and curriculum, i-Ready, Achieve 3000, Write to Learn, etc.

Even as a PD specialist, I currently serve as our System admin for district’s learning management system (LMS) and support our district Content-area Directors, Specialists and even professional development facilitators in DCPS to incorporate blended learning with their professional learning sessions.

Family & Hobbies• In my spare time, I love spending time

with my husband and family. My family is from Haiti and my husband and his family is from Brazil. Recently, my husband came back from a 9-month deployment and we’re trying to catch up on the loss time & memories during this past year.

• I love reading the next bestseller, writing, and even taking the time to watch a Jacksonville Armada (soccer) match. As I played soccer for more than 20 years of my life, I can’t go without watching a US soccer match and excited for the upcoming 2015 Women’s World Cup!
