For my research I tried to focus on looking at the fashion, hair styles and accessories of elven characters from games and movies, also looking at fan art and cosplay. My intended aim was to try and design a character that wasn’t as elegant and clean as most portrayed elves, kind of like a hobo style elf.

Character ResearchFor my research into designing this character I looked into movies and video games that featured Elves within their storylines (Lord of the rings and Skyrim) to get initial ideas on how they dress and their fashion. Also looking on the internet for fan art of elves lead me to interesting and good discoveries, and then also lead me onto looking into fantasy fashion on outlet websites.Elven characters play a huge part within the whole fantasy scene and genre, countless games feature characters of the elven race, such as; World of Warcraft, Skyrim, Oblivion, Dota, Lord of The Rings games… within all of these games the elven race are fantastical, mystical and are very distinguishable from other characters and races. Elven characters in movies share similar traits to ones in games, but still do have one or two differences like they seem to be more elegant and peaceful but more selfish in movies. Although now elves are also a symbol of Christmas and feature a lot in seasonal movies like Santa Claus, as his toy makers and straying away from their historic fantastical image they’re known for. J.R.R Tolkien has had a massive influence to the whole image of Evlish characters after the release of his novels and the movies (Lord of the Rings).
