Since Youtube was first established, people have had the ability to share their videos with people worldwide. The overall impact of short animation has increased since Youtube first came about, because more young animators have a place that they can compare their work.

Viral distribution has become another large factor since Youtube was distributed. Many people with highly viewed Youtube accounts such as Ray William Johnson talk about Youtube videos to their viewers, which often results in them watching the video. Viral distribution is person to person spreading of information, and is resultant to many Youtube sensations. Take Charlie the unicorn for example, because of viral distribution it’s the most viewed animation on Youtube and has resulted in people worldwide being stuck in the wraths of Charlie.

• The effect of cheaper equipment and software for animation, has resulted in a lot of changed. Amateur animators have begun to create animations, because they don’t have to pay high amounts of money to create test trials. The increase in short animation is phenomenal, and it appears that animators are piling out from all places. The improvement in equipment means animators can check their work progress instead of having to wait until they have a finished product, which makes life a whole lot easier.

Onion skinning is a way of editing cartoons and animations so you can see several different frames at once. This gives the animator/editor a clear view of their progress, and can help them decide whether or not to change the animation. Onion skinning helps them to edit their work without having to complete the full project, and they are able to delete scenes throughout the animation quick and efficiently.

• Digital photography is used a lot by amateur animators as it’s a simple way to create them. It consists of taking lots of photos, then editing them to offer movement and emotion. More animations are made because of this, as people are more appreciative of the equipment available. It’s a lot cheaper to produce the animations as you’re only paying for the camera and software, and it overall gives one of the better effects.

• In my animation I didn’t use very many of the techniques described. I used youtube to promote my animation, and so far we’ve had views from people worldwide. I also used digital photography because my whole animation consisted of photos made into movement and emotion.
