Technology Integration Rationale

As the digital revolution rapidly changes the lives we live, it is also influencing our education system and how we need to teach in order to fully engage our students. It is important for teachers to incorporate technology into creative writing lessons, because although writing with a pen and paper may be falling to the wayside, writing itself certainly is not. In fact, creative writing skills are being seen in more and more jobs than ever before. Incorporating technology into lessons deepens the students’ understanding and furthers them in their preparation to function in tomorrow’s evolving society.

Teaching Materials – Games!

• All of these websites have different types of games that can help students to improve in their writing, whether it be through vocabulary or writing activities. The Teen Writing site would be a good way to get students comfortable before assigning writing that would be graded and the other two are great to improve vocabulary through thesaurus and dictionary games. The Rice Up game, as an added bonus donates an ounce of rice for each correct answer to a child in need, which could be a diversion into a small diversity lesson!

Web 2.0• Students and teachers

are able to share documents quickly and easily using Google Docs. This would be productive to use in and outside the classroom for peer editing. Having the papers online is better than peer editing on paper because multiple students can read it at a time and it can not get lost!
