Atheists, Theists and Agnostics all have different views on how the world came about/ was created.
In pairs discuss the question below. Write on a post-it note a summary of what you think ….
Q : How do you think the world was created?
Stick your completed post-it note on the board where your teacher

Christian Creation Story
Long ago, before the earth and all things in it, there was only God.* On day one , God said, "Let there be light ." God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. On day two , God made the sky. On day three , God separated the land from the waters and created flowers, trees, and grass . On day four ,God made the sun, moon, and stars. On day five , the birds and fish were created. On day six , God made animals and then He made people to be like Him. He named the man Adam, and Adam named his wife, Eve. God rested on day seven . He saw everything He had made and said that it was good.

Big Bang
Scientists have gathered a lot of evidence and information about the universe, and have used observations to develop the Big Bang Theory. The theory states that originally all the matter in the universe was concentrated into a single incredibly tiny point.. This resulted in two atoms colliding together. This began to enlarge rapidly in a hot explosion (called the Big Bang), and it is still expanding today. The Big Bang happened about 13.7 billion years ago ….
Evolution
All the different species have evolved/ developed from other animals/ life E.G. Monkeys
We started off as a bacteria and have changed over time to survive the environment we are in. E.G. Cave men = hairy to survive cold… Not as hairy today as the earth is warming up.
These simple life forms first developed more than 3 billion years ago (the Earth is about 4.5 billion years old).

The Design Argument of William Paley
The 18th century philosopher William Paley told this story about the watch to suggest that the world was created by God, that it is the result of careful design and has a purpose. It is called the teleological argument.
William Paley
Questions1. Explain how the appearance of design in the world may lead to, or support a belief in God
2. Explain what are the strengths and weaknesses of the Teleological argument?
Weaknesses
It explains that there is design and purpose in the world
The world does not have to have been designed
Strengths
1.Who is this? This is _____________________________
2.He developed a theory called _______________ ________________To try and ______________ the ___________ of ___________
3.The Design Argument is an argument that claims that the universe could not
have been an __________ and could not have appeared by _________. It therefore
must have had someone to create it. William Paley argues that this was ______.
Select correct wordGod,
Humankind, chance, mistake,
Monkeys, accident

4.Explain in your own words the idea behind the pocket watch and how this helps in the argument to prove God created the world.
Next Lesson: The Teleological Argument • It argues that the world was not
created by chance and that it was designed.
• The universe has a purpose or end. This argument is also called the Teleological Argument. (Telos – end or purpose)
There are certain features of the world that are perfectly adapted to fulfil their function; this suggests that they are
designed.
Can you think of evidence of design in the world?
All of this suggests there must have been a
designer. The designer is God.
