University Mission Statement

Eastern Connecticut State University is the state's public liberal arts university. As a predominantly undergraduate institution, Eastern develops outstanding students who integrate learning with expertise in their chosen fields of study for both civic and career success in a highly technological and rapidly changing world.

Eastern offers a wide range of undergraduate majors in the arts and sciences and professional studies, and selected graduate programs, encompassing interdisciplinary and integrated approaches to teaching and learning. The Eastern experience affords students the opportunity to acquire knowledge, values and skills necessary to pursue meaningful careers and advanced study, become productive members of their communities, and embrace lifelong learning. The University strives to be a model community of learners of different ages from diverse cultural, racial and social backgrounds.

Athletic Department Mission Statement

By placing its highest priority on the overall quality of the liberal arts educational experience, Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramurals & Recreation seeks to integrate its programs and goals with academic and developmental objectives and to assure the assimilation of student-athletes into the general student body. To this end, Eastern places special importance on the impact that the athletic experience has on participants rather than on spectators, and greater emphasis on the internal constituency (students, alumni, faculty, staff) than on the general public and it's entertainment needs.

Statement of Purpose

Eastern Connecticut State University is dedicated to educating men and women in high standards of scholarship and creativity within the parameters of a liberal arts education. These values govern what is taught in the classroom, the environment beyond the classroom, and the ways in which we relate to one another in an academic environment. The University seeks to give students a broad understanding of their own and other cultures as well as competency in a field of specialization. It also recognizes a responsibility to serve its community.

Academic Requirements

General Requirements: NCAA regulations governing eligibility maintain that a student athlete may participate in four seasons of any one sport with eligibility over a period of ten (10) semesters of full-time study. In the case of transfer students, seasons of participation and semesters of attendance at previous institutions will be counted. Furthermore, the NCAA

10

Page 11: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

maintains that a student athlete shall be matriculated and enrolled in no less than 12 credit hours throughout the athletic season, be in good academic standing as defined by the university and be making satisfactory progress toward a baccalaureate degree.

Good Academic Standing: As defined by Eastern Connecticut State University in the Student Handbook, good academic standing is as follows: “Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0” (Page 63)

Satisfactory Progress: Satisfactory progress will be determined by total credits earned. Student athletes must achieve the following credit minimums to be eligible for athletic competition. Calculation of these credits will be done only once per academic year. All student athletes will be evaluated at the end of August, prior to the start of the new academic year for total credits earned.

Grades of Incomplete: No course in which there is a current grade of incomplete can be counted toward credits earned. When the course work for an incomplete grade has been completed, the student’s eligibility will be reevaluated. Depending on the grade received and its impact on the overall eligibility criteria, this could render a student eligible or ineligible for competition.

Evaluation Procedure : Freshmen: Freshmen student athletes will be eligible to participate and will be evaluated for good

academic standing after their first semester and for satisfactory progress after their first year of athletic participation. Additionally, in accordance with Connecticut State University policy, freshmen who are admitted with a combined score of 820 or less on their SAT’s are not eligible to participate on intercollegiate athletic teams during their freshmen year unless they are found by the Student Athletes in Transition Committee to be able, with proper academic support and guidance, to participate.

First time student athletes: A student who has been attending Eastern, but has accumulated fewer than 30 credits will be eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics if they are in good academic standing.

Transfer Students: A student athlete who transfers from another academic institution to Eastern Connecticut State University will be eligible for competition only if he/she would have been eligible for competition at the institution from which he/she transferred, or meets one of the exception requirements in NCAA by law 14.5.

Evaluation Schedule: All returning student athletes will be evaluated at the end of the summer session to determine if they are making satisfactory academic progress. Any student athlete who does not meet the credit minimum as defined earlier will be ineligible for the entire academic year.

All returning student athletes will be reviewed at the end of each academic session (summer, fall, intersession, and spring) to determine if they are in good academic standing.

note: If any student athlete has dropped below the required 2.0, he/she will be declared ineligible

Non-Eastern Coursework: A student athlete who takes courses at another institution during the summer or intersession to make up a credit deficiency must have an official transcript of the work sent to the Registrar’s Office. Until such time that documentation is received, the student cannot be declared eligible. In order to be accepted, the credits must be for a transferable course with a satisfactory grade. To avoid potential problems, prior approval for courses taken

11

Page 12: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

at another institution should be obtained from the register’s office advisor, or chairperson of the department in which the student athlete has declared a major of study.

Appeals: Student-athletes who have been identified as academically ineligible may submit an appeal through the Assistant Athletic Director of Student Development, who in consultation with the Athletic Director will make a final ruling on eligibility.

Penalties for non-compliance are as follows:

- First violation results in a verbal warning- Second violation results in a written warning to the student athlete, coach and Director

of Athletics.- Third violation results in suspension from the next scheduled athletic contest. The

student athlete will not be allowed to participate in the contest.- Subsequent violations may result in suspension from the team.

. Student/Athlete and Professor Relationships: The most important thing as a student-

athlete is to develop a good relationship with professors. Student/athletes stand out in the classroom setting because they represent the athletic department, the institution, and your team

Tutoring: If a student-athlete is struggling academically, ECSU has a tutoring program available to them. The tutoring program can be found in The Learning Center in the Support Services Building in room 204. Or you can call them at 465-5198

12

Page 13: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

Campaign for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Sport is an education project focused on eliminating homophobia as a barrier to all women and men participating in sport. Our primary goals are to develop and disseminate practical educational information and resources to athletic administrators, coaches, parents, and athletes at the high school and college levels to make sport safe and welcoming for all.

Prejudice against lesbian and bisexual women in sports discourages girls and women from participating in sport out of fear of being called a lesbian. Homophobic attitudes and policies that target lesbian and bisexual athletes, coaches and administrators perpetuate this prejudice. The practical effects of such discrimination and prejudice are that all female athletes are denied a healthy and fulfilling sport experience and environment.

The Foundation also recognizes that homophobia pervades all of sport, influencing the lives of male as well as female athletes. Addressing homophobia in women’s sport and in men’s sport acknowledges the web of sexism, homophobia and gender oppression that can limit the experiences of athletes of all genders and sexual orientations. It Takes a Team! reflects this inclusive approach to addressing homophobia in sport. Though It Takes a Team! focuses on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in sport, we are committed to creating athletic climates that are respectful and safe for people of all races, religions, abilities, and socio-economic statuses.

SPORTSMANSHIP AT ECSU

13

Page 14: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

One of your responsibilities as a student-athlete is to always display proper sportsmanship at all athletic events. It is important to recognize that sportsmanlike behavior will often require effort on your part.

 Enter each competition expecting fairness. The proper attitude is of utmost importance. Do not enter a competition worried about your opponents’ performance; enter a competition with the idea of giving your best performance. Compete hard but play fair. Treat your fellow players equally and with respect. Unsportsmanlike conduct in others never justifies retaliation with unsportsmanlike conduct on your part. Do not make excuses or discuss a teammate’s shortcomings. Almost every situation has a positive and a negative side, so emphasize the positive. Support officials; avoid criticizing them or blaming losses on their actions. Support team efforts by encouraging teamwork and mutual effort. Your coach will instruct you in positive techniques for communicating with officials, opponents and the public. You will also be advised on how to react to the aggressive or unsportsmanlike actions of others.

 When you attend other athletic events, remember that you are expected to demonstrate proper sportsmanship there as well.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIORS

The University will not tolerate any of the following behaviors:

Physically abusing an official, coach, athlete, opponent, or spectator Throwing of any object at any individual or onto any playing surface Seizing equipment or cameras from officials or the news media Inciting players or spectators to violent action or any behavior which insults or defiles an

opponent’s traditions Encouraging our fans to boo an opposing team when introductions are made; Using obscene or inappropriate language or gestures to officials, opponents, team members or

spectators

NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement

14

Page 15: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

Colleges and universities in Division III place highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students’ academic programs. They seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s educational experience. They also seek to establish and maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among their student-athletes and athletics staff. (Revised: 1/10/95)

To achieve this end, Division III institutions:

(a) Place special importance on the impact of athletics on the participants rather than on the spectators and place greater emphasis on the internal constituency (students, alumni, institutional personnel) than on the general public and its entertainment needs;

(b) Award no athletically related financial aid to any student;

(c) Encourage the development of sportsmanship and positive societal attitudes in all constituents, including student-athletes, coaches, administrative personnel and spectators;

(d) Encourage participation by maximizing the number and variety of athletics opportunities for their students;

(e) Assure that the actions of coaches and administrators exhibit fairness, openness and honesty in their relationships with student-athletes;

(f) Assure that athletics participants are not treated differently from other members of the student body;

(g) Assure that athletics programs support the institution’s educational mission by financing, staffing and controlling the programs through the same general procedures as other departments of the institution;

(h) Assure that athletics recruitment complies with established institutional policies and procedures applicable to the admission process; (Adopted: 1/12/04 effective 8/1/04)

(i) Support ethnic and gender diversity for all constituents; (Adopted: 1/12/99)

(j) Give primary emphasis to regional in-season competition and conference championships(k) Support student-athletes in their efforts to reach high levels of athletics performance, which may

include opportunities for participation in national championships, by providing all teams with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriate competitive opportunities.

The purpose of the NCAA is to assist its members in developing the basis for consistent, equitable competition while minimizing infringement on the freedom of individual institutions to determine their own special objectives and programs. The above statement articulates principles that represent a commitment to Division III membership and shall serve as a guide for the preparation of legislation by the division and for planning and implementation of programs by institutions and conferences.

UNIVERSITY POLICY ON ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

15

Page 16: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

At Eastern Connecticut State University, we value personal integrity as fundamental to our interactions with each other. We place special weight on academic honesty in all of our intellectual pursuits because it is a value fundamental to academic life and scholarly practice. All members of the University community are obligated to uphold high standards of academic honesty in their scholarship and learning, and this obligation extends to students. Therefore, we expect students to take personal responsibility for their intellectual work and to respect and acknowledge the ideas of others. Academic honesty means doing one’s own work and giving proper credit to others whose work and thought are drawn upon. It is the responsibility of each student to become familiar with what constitutes academic dishonesty and plagiarism, and to avoid all forms of cheating and plagiarism. In an effort to assist students in this understanding, faculty are encouraged to include in their syllabi a statement regarding academic misconduct and the possible sanctions that may result from violations of this policy. Students may not engage in any form of academic misconduct, and are responsible for learning how to present the ideas of others in their own work, and avoid all other forms of academic misconduct. For current documentation practices, consult the instructor or a style manual.

The CSU Code of Conduct, Policies, Procedures, & Statements, defines academic misconduct as including, but not limited to, providing or receiving assistance in a manner not authorized by the instructor in the creation of work to be submitted for academic evaluation, including papers, projects, and examinations (cheating); and presenting as one’s own, the ideas or words of another person or persons for academic evaluation without proper acknowledgment (plagiarism). Academic misconduct may take many forms. It includes, but is not limited to, the following actions unless such actions are explicitly authorized by the instructor:

Examinations:

Copying from another person’s paper or receiving any unauthorized assistance in taking examinations or any other form of academic evaluation (i.e. tests, quizzes, etc.);

Knowingly allowing another person to copy from one’s own examination or any other form of academic evaluation;

Use of unauthorized materials or devices during an examination or any other form of academic evaluation (i.e. use of signals, notes or additional materials such as books, calculators, or other electronic devices) during an examination when the instructor has not approved their use;

Giving or receiving unauthorized information prior to, during, or after an examination;

Use of another person as a substitute, or acting as a substitute for another person, in any form of academic evaluation (i.e. a student may not have another person take an examination for them);

16

Page 17: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

The acquisition or distribution of improperly acquired examinations or other forms of academic evaluation (i.e. stealing examinations before the test period or taking a copy of an examination from a testing room without the permission of the instructor). Examinations which have been provided by an instructor are legitimate study tools.

Improper Behavior:

Unauthorized collaboration in the preparation of materials to be submitted for academic evaluation (i.e. working with another student on an assignment when the instructor has not explicitly authorized working together);

Submission of the same work, or substantially similar work, in more than one course without prior consent of the evaluating instructors in all courses;

Disruptions in classrooms, labs, or research and study areas; any conduct or actions that grossly or persistently interfere with the academic process. (See the Student Code of Conduct and Statement of Judicial Procedures, Prohibited Conduct No. 2.)

Theft, alteration, or destruction of the academic work of other members of the community or of the educational resources, materials, or official documents of the University.

Students who witness any act of academic misconduct by other students are required to inform the faculty member of that misconduct.

Falsification or Misuse of Academic Information:

Falsification or misrepresentation of one’s own academic record or that of anyone else (i.e. altering a transcript for admission, hacking into the University’s computer system for any reason, having another student take an examination in one’s place, or signing someone else’s name on an attendance sheet);

Unauthorized use of information in University computer records or the computer files of other students (see Computer Use Policy);

Using unauthorized materials or fabricated data in an academic exercise (i.e. falsifying data in a research paper or laboratory activity; conducting research on human or animal subjects without approval by the appropriate panel or supervisor).

Plagiarism:

Copying sentences, phrases, paragraphs, tables, figures or data directly or in slightly modified form from a book, article, internet site or other published or unpublished source, or adapting the ideas of another authority without following acceptable forms of citation (i.e. quotation marks, endnotes, footnotes, parenthetical notes, and/or other

contextual information); Using or buying a paper written by someone else for the purpose of turning it in as one’s own work;

Selling or lending papers for the purpose of violating academic misconduct policies. (This may also be a criminal offense, see Connecticut General Statutes: 953-392a);

Submission of the same work, or substantially similar work, in more than one course without the consent of the evaluating instructors in all courses;

Citing a work that has been referenced in another work without actually consulting the original piece directly;

Fabrication or alteration of data.

When any material is borrowed from another person, the source must be cited according to some academically accepted standard (i.e. APA, MLA, etc.). There are three ways in which other writers’ materials may appear in the work of another:

1) by putting quotation marks around short passages that are borrowed verbatim (word for word) or by setting off from the text, without quotation marks, longer quotations (more than three sentences).

2) by précis (i.e. condensing part of a writer’s argument).3) by paraphrase (i.e. interpretation of a writer’s ideas).

All three must be acknowledged formally, either in the text or with footnotes, according to the style required by the instructor.

CONSEQUENCES OF ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

The purpose of imposing sanctions for violations of the Academic Misconduct Policy is to uphold the academic integrity of our campus community, but also to provide an opportunity to use appropriate sanctions as a means of educating students and fostering their academic development. These actions are based on the philosophy that students’ learning and associated behavior extend beyond the scope of the classroom to the broader ECSU community.

When a faculty member determines that a case of academic misconduct warranting a sanction has occurred, that faculty member will document the incident, meet with the responsible student to discuss the issue, and inform the student of the sanctions imposed as a result of the misconduct. Sanctions the faculty member may impose include, but are not limited to:

1) Assigning a grade of “F” for the course.2) Assigning a grade of “F” for the material being evaluated.

18

Page 19: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

3) Assigning a reduced grade for the material being evaluated.4) Assigning additional course work.

In all cases where the sanction is a failing grade for the course, the faculty member is required to submit a copy of an Academic Misconduct Report and all supporting materials to the University Judicial Officer and the Registrar’s Office within three business days of the meeting with the student. Faculty members who impose a sanction less than a failing grade for the course are encouraged to submit a copy of the report and supporting material to the Judicial Officer. The Judicial Officer will maintain a file on all students that have received at least one referral from a faculty member for academic misconduct. When a student has accumulated two referrals resulting in failing grades in those courses, or three referrals with any sanction, the Judicial Officer will convene the Academic Misconduct Committee to consider additional sanctions against the student.

When a student receives a failing grade for a course due to academic misconduct, the Registrar’s Office will place an F on the student’s transcript. The student will not be allowed to withdraw from the course and the grade of F will not be changed, even if the student withdraws from the University.

The student will receive a copy of the Academic Misconduct Report and all supporting materials at the meeting with the faculty member. After this meeting, the student has three business days to appeal the faculty member’s findings to the Academic Misconduct Committee. If the student refuses to attend a meeting with the faculty member, the faculty member will submit all materials to the Judicial Officer and Registrar’s Office after reasonable attempts have been made to arrange a meeting with the student.

Optional Additional Steps/Appeals

Action taken on issues relating to academic misconduct that go beyond the faculty/student meeting will be handled solely by the Academic Misconduct Committee. Grade issues relating to cases that do not involve academic misconduct are to be pursued through the Grade Appeals Committee. Cases relating to instances of academic misconduct do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Grade Appeals Committee and cannot be appealed to that Committee.

The Academic Misconduct Committee will be convened if one of the following events occurs:

1) If the faculty member believes the imposition of additional sanctions against the student is appropriate, the faculty member may refer the case to the Committee.

2) If the student disagrees with the finding of academic misconduct made by the faculty member, the student may appeal to the Committee. In cases where the student appeals but the faculty member does not request additional sanctions, the Committee will not have the option of imposing additional sanctions on the student.

19

Page 20: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

3) When a student has accumulated two referrals to the Judicial Officer that have resulted in failing grades for those courses, or three referrals with any sanction imposed, the Committee will be convened to consider additional sanctions against the student.

4) All cases that are referred to the Judicial Officer without a student appeal or faculty member request for additional sanctions, will be reviewed by the Committee. The Committee will determine whether sufficient evidence of misconduct exists to warrant inclusion of the incident in the student’s file that is maintained by the Judicial Officer.

In cases of a student appeal or faculty member request for additional sanctions, the Judicial Officer will convene the Academic Misconduct Committee to hear the case. When the requisite number of referrals pertaining to an individual student has accumulated, the Judicial Officer will also convene the Committee to consider appropriate sanctions. Hearings will be scheduled at the earliest possible date.

The Academic Misconduct Committee will consist of three full-time faculty members chosen by the University Senate, one student chosen by the Student Government Association, and the Dean of Students or a representative chosen by the Dean. The Judicial Officer will serve as facilitator at all hearings. The faculty member and the student will be allowed to provide any evidence relevant to the case, including witnesses, at the hearing.

After each hearing, the Committee may:

1) Find sufficient evidence of academic misconduct, and:a) terminate the student appeal without applying additional sanctions (if the

case was appealed by the student without a request for additional sanctions by the faculty member. The Committee may impose additional sanctions if requested by the faculty member);

b) impose any additional sanctions the Committees believes are warranted (if a student has accumulated the requisite number of referrals or a faculty member has requested additional sanctions pertaining to a single incident).

2) Find there is insufficient evidence of academic misconduct and reverse the sanction imposed by the faculty member.

If the Committee finds that additional sanctions against a student are appropriate, the Committee may:

1) Place the student on Academic Misconduct Probation. This probation will last for an amount of time determined by the Committee and will be monitored by the Judicial Officer. Any future violation of the Academic Misconduct Policy by the student while on probation will result in an automatic suspension from the University, unless the Committee deems an alternative sanction is more

20

Page 21: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

appropriate. The length and beginning date of this suspension will be determined by the Committee.

2) Suspension from the University. The length and beginning date of this suspension will be determined by the Committee.

3) Expulsion from the University.

This list is not exhaustive and the Committee may impose other sanctions it deems appropriate on a case-by-case basis. All decisions of the Committee are final and binding on all parties involved.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM

The Athletic Training Staff is committed to providing the highest quality of care for our student-athletes that is possible within the framework of our facilities, budget, and personnel. We take great pride in helping to prevent injuries, and doing our best to assess and rehabilitate the various injury conditions as they occur. Our philosophy is to stay positive and work hard with the athletes and coaches to return the athletes to competition as quickly as is safely possible, and maintain good communication between coach, athlete, physician, family and trainer.

Athletic Training Regulations

28360. If a player is down on the floor/field and appears to be injured, do not help the athlete to move or to get up. Only the coach or trainer is to assist injured players.

1. Tell the trainer of all injuries and pain, and all colds and skin conditions. The trainer will decide the proper treatment, if any.

28361. Make sure you are thoroughly warmed up to play. Do light exercise (jogging), followed by at least 10 minutes of stretching. Stretch after practice also.

28362. Protect yourself against blisters. Wear two pair of clean, dry socks that fit; condition your feet gradually; report “hot spots;” file off excess calluses; break in new shoes gradually.

28363. Protect yourself against athlete’s feet. Use clean, dry socks (and jock); keep feet dry and clean, especially between toes; use foot powder; wear shower clogs on feet in shower; keep sneakers dry. Report any rashes or itching.

28364. Tie your sneakers tightly.

28365. Come early to the training room for pre-practice and pre-game treatments. No taping will be done within 10 minutes of practice.

28366. The trainer will do all taping and wrapping: there should be no self-application of tape. During warm-up and play, tell the trainer if the tape starts to pinch. Remove tape and dispose of it properly after playing.

28367. Drink water as you need it during practice and games. Do not get thirsty. Keep your mouth off the nozzle of squeeze bottles.

28368. Do not take salt tablets.

28369. Keep your nails short.

28370. If you have any injury preventing you from participating in practice, you will still be expected to come to practice to watch and to do rehabilitation exercises.

28371. Follow the trainer’s instructions for your particular injury: “Apply ice,” “Keep elevated,” “Stay off it,” “Do specific exercises,” etc.

28372. Horseplay is how accidents and injuries occur. Avoid horseplay at all times.

24

Page 25: Eastern Connecticut State University Handbook Part 2

28373. Chewing gum is not permitted in practice or games.

28374. Maintain adequate rest and proper diet.

28375. Smokeless tobacco (chew, dip) is not permitted.

28376. All articles of training equipment assigned to you (crutches, ankle braces, air casts, thigh supports, etc.) must be returned or paid for in order to receive that semester’s grades.

28377. For proper insurance coverage, all visits to a doctor must be coordinated through the trainer. Unless it is for an emergency, do not go to a physician without seeing the trainer.

28378. Before participating in team related physical activity all returning athletes must obtain a physical examination from University physician.

28379. The coach and trainer want to win as much as you do, and will let you play when it is safe. Please respect their decisions.

Insurance Coverage

Students Student Athlete’s must submit a copy of their insurance form and give the names, addresses and phone numbers of guardians, the family insurance company and the family physician

The primary carrier for the payment of medical bills incurred while participating in Eastern athletics is the athlete’s family insurance. Eastern will provide coverage of medical bills for accidents upon proof that the claims have initially been submitted to the athlete’s family insurance carrier. Eastern’s insurance coverage will pay the balance of the bills, or the entire bill if the student has no family coverage.

note: Eastern’s insurance coverage does not include payment for pre-existing conditions (such as orthotics, chondromalacia, contact lenses, etc.) or for conditions specifically covered by the separate Eastern Illness/Sickness Policy that students can purchase, such as mononucleosis or skin conditions.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG POLICY

In light of the challenges and problems facing student-athletes today in the United States, Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognizes that there is an obligation on behalf of the student athlete for a high standard of behavior in terms of alcohol and substance abuse. As a department, we also recognize our responsibility, duty and obligation to assist student athletes in making informed decisions, based upon facts, relating to alcohol and substance abuse and misuse.

Our Policies and regulations have been established to support the educational mission of the University. This mission includes providing a safe, clean environment in which students can pursue their education without undue interruption or distraction. In order for this to happen we all must be honest, respect the rights of all members of the University and local communities, and conduct ourselves in a responsible manner. Towards this end, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics attempts to meet the needs of student athletes by:

TEAM TRAVEL

All intercollegiate teams in the traditional season shall travel to scheduled contests by an appropriately sized motor coach or by 15 or 12-passenger university van(s). All non-traditional season travel and scrimmage game travel will be by 15 or 12-passenger van(s) unless other arrangements are made by the Director of Athletics. All teams are required to have a professional representative of ECSU accompany them to the competition site and on the return trip to Eastern.

Any use of ECSU vehicles without written consent of the Vehicle Coordinator and/or the Director of Athletics is prohibited. If a team or coach would like to use an ECSU vehicle for any purpose other than a regularly scheduled traditional season game, they must first get written authorization from the Director of Athletics.

Players are NOT permitted to use their personal vehicles for travel to or from an athletic contest. Students who assist in driving ECSU vans must be employed or a certified volunteer of ECSU, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Operator’s License, have an acceptable motor vehicle record and have demonstrated their ability to Department of Athletics staff that they can safely operate a van. Student-athletes on the active team roster may not drive an ECSU vehicle to or from any athletic competition that their team is involved in. Student-athletes are expected to return to ECSY in the same vehicle (van or bus) as they arrived to the site of competition unless proper authorization is given by the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach.
