Earthquake Safety

Before Reducing or eliminating hazards throughout
your house.
Make an emergency plan, included evacuation
and reunion plans. Keep and maintain an emergency supplieskit in an easy-to-access location.
Copies of prescription medications, medical
supplies, or other important documents.
Earthquake Preparedness at Home
During "Drop, Cover, and Hold On“
Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls,
and anything that could fall
Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes,
and hold on and protect your head with a pillow.
Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go
outside
After The first thing that you should do is to check
for injuries and damages that need immediate
attention.
Turn on your portable radio for information
and safety advisories
Put on long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy
shoes and work gloves to protect against injury
from broken objects.
Earthquake Preparedness at School
Before Pick safe places in each room of your school
Make sure you made a list and a map of the location
and availability of First Aid and other emergency
supplies
Remove the heavy items from the tops of bookshelves
and cupboards
Practice the earthquake drill in case of the actual
earthquake
During move away from windows, shelves and heavy
objects that may fall
take cover under a table or desk, in a corner or
doorway
in the library, move away from where books and
bookshelves may fall and take cover
in science laboratories, extinguish all burners, if
possible, before taking cover; stay away from
hazardous chemicals that may spill
After
Reunite students with their family
Establish absentee policies for teachers/students after a
disaster
Develop a plan for conducting classes if some of your
facilities are damaged--half-day sessions, alternative sites,
portable classrooms
Help people who require special assistance, and other
people who need help
