INTRODUCTION

It can play a vital role in preparing the young generation by upgrading them with innovative skills and knowledge which

the 2 e-learning plays an important role in the educational growth of any nation.

1st century demands.

e-learning is a changing trend from traditional learning in to technological based teaching and learning.

The modern technologies particularly the internet made education no longer confined to the four walls of the classroom.

Based on present scenario, the knowledge of Information and communication technology is very much need of the hour.

Thus internet has started reshaping education.

If one need to survive, the knowledge of ICT has become a basic need to exist in the present technology based society.

Thus the knowledge and skills of e-learning has become the essential part in once life.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To know the concept of e-learning.

To know the difference between traditional and e-learning.

To know the benefits and disadvantages of e-learning.

To know how to sustain e-learning.

To know the concept of e-learning

e-learning is an approach to facilitate and enhance learning through both computer and communication technology.

It is also called as “on line learning”.

It is well suited for distance learning and flexible learning.

e-learning is a umbrella term which covers a wide set of electronic educational applications and processes like web-based learning,

computer based learning, virtual classroom and digital collaboration.

It includes the transaction of content through network, audio and video recordings, satellite broadcast, interactive TV and CD-ROM.

e -learning acts as a means of teaching –learning that incorporates self-motivation, communication, efficiency and technology.

e-learning is internet- enabled learning.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND e-LEARNING

Class Room a. Limited number of students.

b. Fixed time and inside the class

room.

c. Synchronous.

d. Difficult to update matter.

e. Difficult to re-conduct

a. Unlimited number of students.

b. Anytime and anywhere.

c. Asynchronous.

d. Easy to update matter

Content Delivery Text book, library, power point,

transparency.

Multimedia, Digital library,

Virtual learning.

Nature of Learning Single and strict learning path

without self pace.

Learning path and pace determined

by learner.

BENEFITS OF e -LEARNING

Any Where - Students can learn from classes or from home provided they have a computer, laptop, tab, and mobile with internet

connection.

e-Learning More Effective- It is an amalgamation of variety of rich media and interactivity- audio, video, simulation etc that leads

to increased retention and a strong grasp on the material.

e-Learning is Convenient and Accessible- As it is self paced learner can work at their own pace and fit the learning into their

own style and schedule.

e-Learning Provides Standard Information- One can avoid the problem of confusion caused in the regular classroom when the

same content is taught by different instructors in different styles.

e-Learning is Interesting and Motivating - Makes the students more interested and motivated towards learning as they get

exposed to variety of rich learning experiences by having access to multimedia.

e-Learning Cater Learning Style- It caters to different learning styles unlike traditional classroom learning.

e-Learning is Individualised Instruction- Provides individualised instruction suiting to the interest, need, mental level, abilities

of the learner.

e-Learning is Cost Effective - There is no need for the students to travel, they can access to learning from anywhere provided

internet connection is available.

DIS-ADVANTAGE OF E-LEARNING

POOR INTERNET CONNECTION- makes the students to miss online classes or assignment submission deadlines and becomes

a barrier between teacher and students communication.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE FOR e - LEARNING- Students with little or no previous experience of computer knowledge finds

difficult to learning through e-learning.

VERY COSTLY - It cost very high to prepare e-learning materials. It’s difficult to get highly skilled persons to develop software.

MEASURES TO SUSTAIN e-LEARNING

01. Match the Curriculum- The software lesson prepared to students should be according to, curriculum, with clear objectives,

particular class, according to mental level, age, relevance of content, student’s activity and the method of assessment and feedback.

02. Learner Centered- The material for e-learning should be prepared keeping in mind the student’s interest, their active involvement,

motivation and to sustain the same zeal still the end of learning.

03. Opportunities for Success- The program prepared for school students should ensure opportunities for success rather than failure.

It should maintain student’s involvement without dropping the motivational level. Thus should provide an opportunity to nurture self-

efficacy.

04. Need of Technological Skills- To succeed through e-learning both teacher and students are needed to acquire training and prior

knowledge of technological skills and operations.

CONCLUSION

e-Learning is providing superior education alternative to traditional teaching and learning.

It will inevitably transform all forms of educational, teaching and learning method in the 21 st century.

e-Learning cannot be ignored where one is seriously committed to enhance teaching and learning.

Hence the need of the hour to survive in the present fast transforming technological society and to compete with the ICT world, is the

knowledge of ICT, as it is very essential, it can be achieved by teaching through e-learning at school level.
