be student-, not teacher-oriented

be easy to use & in various formats: ePub, mobi, pdf, …

as well as all-OS compatible + accessible online (browser-based)

have lots of empty space for students to express their creativity

contain visuals as an important prompt stimulating speaking, thinking, writing, …

contain video & audio clips to develop listening and speaking skills

have clear layout, i.e. one page = one lesson

include different types of texts, e.g. comics to stimulate creativity

include graphic organizers and examples of reading strategies to support learning and make it effective

combine text with visual prompts

be dyslexic- and visually impaired students‘ friendly

- fun,- interactive,- offering lots of practice (exercises, quizzes, games)

- informative, - authentic, - life-like, - topical, - interesting, - adaptable, …- with elements of formative & self assessment (e.g. Can do statements)
