What will help?Sometimes, you’ll need extra time for tests

You can ask the teacher to explain the directions on a test

Reading out-loud is good!

If you read something that sounds unfamiliar, ask an adult if that’s a real word

Use software to write what you say

You’re SMART!

Having dyslexia makes it difficult to take information in, but once it’s in your brain you have a great memory

You learn things differently. That makes it hard right now, but gives you a great advantage when you’re done with school.


It’s so frustrating!


When things are hard

Listen to an audio-book or watch the movie

Doodle while you listen to keep focused

Do a team sport and have fun outside school

Remember, you will grow up and be a successful adult!


Why me?

Dyslexia is genetic and inherited from your parents

Your mom and dad both have some traits of dyslexia

Ask them how they learned to compensate for dyslexia and what they think the benefits are now that they are adults
