Brief Description:

21st Century has been termed as knowledge era. In fact every nation is in race to

perform due to increase competitiveness in information computer technology,

infrastructure, research and innovation. In teaching pedagogy for lifelong learning

and regulatory frameworks have become critical parameters. One of the goals of

this initiative is to refocus our educational system in the era of quality and

competency that will enhance creativity and productive capabilities of our learner.

DKNMU is concerned about providing the industries with the right kind of

engineers. DKNMU is committed for excellent quality to consider and

empowering force of a high order capable of transforming the learner into dynamic

person that how would he take up entrepreneurial tasks. To make education and

effective tool for such transformation of the human resource, we need to rebuild

our higher education system as an organized ongoing, lifelong learner. Also we

need to replace the conventional (2D dimensional) teaching and learning to (3D

dimensional) teaching learning approach, as there no relevance in rote leering. Use

of concept base teaching and building syllabus accordingly is necessary. We need

to refocus to following components

Redesigning the Curriculum- The curriculum needs to be holistically designed

into one whole. To have four fold configuration namely single multi inter and cross

disciplinary is to be in corporate into the theoretical discourses and work oriented

practical task.

The Course Work Based Syllabus. The redesigned curriculum must get reflected

in the syllabus of various areas of study and scholarships. Each course should be

trifurcated into concepts practicals and internships.

Use of Collaborative Learning- Students of DKNMU enjoys collaborative

learning.

Page 3: Dr. K. N. Modi University

Unlike individual learning, students engaged in collaborative learning capitalize on

one another’s resource and skills.

The provision for seamless education and transfer of credits is made in our

curriculum so that a technical student with hidden talent can opt for music or allied

subjects as a substitute arrangement from any of general main stream course.

The faculty members of DKNMU use their own teaching methodology with the

help of Smart Class\ Digi Class Implementation, Purple Leap Edge-

Partnership where students are learning in the class of Purple Leap with the use

of VSAT. Teachers also imparting their knowledge and methods to handle the

difficulties in the class rooms.

An agreement has been signed between Kent State University, USA and Dr. K.

N. Modi University, India. The purpose of this agreement is to establish a

mutually-beneficial educational and pedagogical relationship between them.

In the addition the University’s faculty members try make teaching innovative with

NPTEL. The other way make the teaching pedagogy innovative as deputation of

students for foreign training. Partnership with Businet, Pro-active Counseling

and Mentoring systems, Digital library , Delnet, Use of Video Conferencing

facilities, In house Faculty Development Programs , deputing faculty and students

for various workshops/training programs /conference etc.

Objectives-

General objectives of Innovation in Teaching Pedagogy in DKNMU are-

1- To provide common training to every student from the same curriculum.

2-Help to prepare faculty for a specific class they will teach.

3-To support faculty in the creation, implementation and assessment of significant

integrative learning experiences for all of their students and also in conducting an

innovative and successful college course.

4-To provide a vehicle for graduate students to develop and expand their personal

theory of instruction –that is, to deeper their understanding and how to apply the

instructional strategies and tactics that they believe will best facilitate learning in

their context area of interest.

5-To provide faculty with an overview of professional teaching opportunities.

6-To expose faculty to a wide variety of teaching techniques.

7-To provide opportunities for faculty to gain actual teaching experience, using

variety of teaching methods (lecture, discussion, collaborative and group learning)

to present material in a clear manner.

8-To address practical concerns of class room teaching practice as well as

theoretical issues associated with college teaching, including: how to manage a

class room, how to evaluate written papers, how to design a lesson, practice in

presenting a lesson, learn how to create syllabus and choose appropriate course

reading, gain skills in observing and benefitting from others, teaching practices etc.

Target groups:

Target group is aimed the teachers who wants to analyze and discuss modern ways

of teaching and learning i.e. Teaching Assistants, Ph.D. students, external

lecturers.

We try to challenge basic assumptions about traditional teaching by focusing on

the student’s learning processes in selection to didactic concepts.

Planning teaching on the selection between didactive concepts such as : setting up

goals , analyzing the students backgrounds and institutional environment, concept

and method, learning processes and evaluation.

Achievements-

1-In the DKNMU faculty members and students collectively work to create

academic ambience to sustain and enhanced quality excellence by synergizing use

of concept based teaching.

In DKNMU use of Concept Based Teaching is employed by use of Concept

based curriculum.

Concept based curriculum stress on thinking skills, focus on concept, principles

,using related facts and skills as a tool to give deeper understanding.

In this way teachers use the facts in concert with Concepts and Generalization to

affect higher order synergistic thinking. In this way provide the foundation and

support for deeper conceptual thinking and understanding. Three dimensional

concept based curriculum with student enquiry based and constructivist learning to

support personal meaning making where as traditional curriculum request students

to cover topic, memorize facts and restate them for evaluation purposes. Basically

it is two dimensional curriculum only focus on facts and skill with the sole aim of

content coverage.

2- DKNMU uses the performance based appraisal system included as part of the

new Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) is now reinforced better by introducing

element of annual incentive to promote higher performance by the faculty.

3- DKNMU is surrounded by rural culture in Newai, Tonk district so it provides

free Foundation Course much before the commencement of academic session.

Three to four months period will enable rural students to upgrade their skill in

computer proficiencies and also give confidence to build solid foundation by

revising twealth standard syllabus.

Page 9: Dr. K. N. Modi University

4-DKNMU being a rural university provides a cutting edge to the essential sanitary

health and community development by Eye Camps / Cancer Camps for

community / Social Commitment awareness for the students. When students

participate in such type of events there is a provision for warding special credits in

the evaluation system to the students. DKNMU always supports different

organizations which are working in the field of social causes like “ Mukti- Dhara

which is determined to work with the wandering tribes and castes, who have been

wandering for centuries through the Valleys of Aravali Mountains of Rajasthan.

The wandering Tribal Communities of Rajasthan are victims of ignorance,

injustice, inhumanness, poverty and fear.

5-DKNMU has organized an International event- Alliance of Global Education

2013.This was a comprehensive educational event on 25 Jan 2013.Around thirty

neighboring countries participated in this event through their respective Embassies.

The Government officials, Ambassadors and other diplomats of different countries

was on the same platform to discus and share the imperative scrutiny to make India

a global platform for higher education. The main motive is to enhance and expand

the educational collaboration with foreign universities.

International Accreditation Organization (IAO) also visited university recently

which is an international quality assurance agency, working to improve quality

assurance standards of organizations all over the world.

6- An agreement has been signed between Kent State University, USA and Dr.

K. N. Modi University, India , to establish cooperative relations between the two

institutions, and especially to develop academic and cultural interchange between

them through mutual assistance in the areas of education and research, hereby

resolve to cooperate in the development of programs and academic exchanges.

Page 10: Dr. K. N. Modi University

The purpose of this agreement is to establish a mutually-beneficial educational and

pedagogical relationship between Kent State University and Dr. K N Modi

University.

This Agreement shall be carried out, through activities and programs for the

exchange of students and faculty members. Activities engaged in under the

Agreement include but are not limited to: (a) the exchange of students from each

institution for traditional student exchange programs; (b) the exchange of academic

personnel for teaching, research, or both; (c) the organization of joint seminars and

conferences; (d) the hosting of visiting faculty from the other institution; (e) the

exchange of academic program materials; and (f) the development of joint research

and publications.

Besides these achievements there are another achievements of DKNMU which

are as follows-

Smart Class/ Digi Class Implementation- The University provides its students

with Smart Class / Digi Class facility and makes available multimedia facilities.

We have a tie-up with “Pearson International” for providing best available world

class multimedia enabled and simulation based content for higher education. Two

fully equipped smart classes are available in the University. Operationally,

images can be displayed on the screen in bright environment. Besides, the screen

is semi-transparent by which the impact on spacing sensibility is lesser.

Technically, the board is made of special materials by which images can be

captured and shown on the screen.

Page 11: Dr. K. N. Modi University

Purple Leap- Edge-Partnership-

DKNMU has a partnership with Purple Leap to make their students industry ready.

India’s knowledge economy is growing at a rapid pace and along with is growing

the demand for quality talent. Organizations are looking for talent that can be

readily deployed. However, industry today is facing a huge challenge in finding

talent that can be readily deployed.

The skill requirements in knowledge sectors such as the IT and ITES sector evolve

at a revolutionary pace. The onus of helping students keep pace with the dynamic

industry environment lies with the Academia. However, modification to academic

curriculum and its implementation is traditionally a long process, resulting in

students not aligned to the industry requirements.

Purple-Leap understands this challenge and works in partnership with colleges to

help bridge this gap. Purple-Leap sets up Career Centre in the college where we

help the college in the complete cycle of assessment-training-placement. Purple

Leap takes the responsibility of making students ready for the industry

Partnership-NEN-For Entrepreneurship-

The Dr. K.N. Modi University is an active member of National Entrepreneurship

Network. NEN provides support to start-ups and early-stage entrepreneurs through

high –impact entrepreneurship education. NEN is Co- Founded by IIT Mumbai;

IIM Ahmadabad & BITS Pilani represents India's largest and most dynamic

committee of new & future high growth Entrepreneurs.

Partnership with NPTEL-

DKNMU has a partnership with NPTEL for betterment in teaching.

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a

Government of India sponsored collaborative educational programme. By

Page 12: Dr. K. N. Modi University

developing curriculum-based video and web courses the programme aims to

enhance the quality of engineering education in India.

Deputation of Students for foreign training- We regularly organize industrial

visits so that students appreciate the technical processes and acquire first - hand

knowledge of the latest trends in industry.

Partnership with Businet-

Dr. K.N. Modi University has become a member of Businet (An International

Organization of Higher Educators). Businet has 93 members across 25 countries.

This network of Educational Institutes interacts amongst themselves in various

areas. The entire member institutes work together to promote Higher Education,

Faculty Exchange, Student Exchange, Seminars, and Conferences are organized

from time to time for this. We propose to take part and organize such

programmes from time to time.

Use of Multi Dimensional Teaching-

DKNMU uses a multidimensional approach to learning .It is any point on the

spectrum between Top-down and Bottom-up, that incorporates both teacher

evaluation and learner self-evaluation. It incorporates both teacher inspired

learning and student inspired learning. Where the learner steers the path sometimes

and the teacher steers the path others. It is on this spectrum that homeschooling

lies.

Page 13: Dr. K. N. Modi University

Pro- Active Counselling and Mentoring Systems-

DKNMU uses pro active counselling and mentoring system. Mentoring is usually a

proactive intervention strategy designed to develop a person for improved

performance at higher level positions in an organization. Like counselling,

mentoring employs a “systems approach” to develop capacity.

Mentoring as a reactive intervention strategy is also used to describe community-

service social programs for developing youth, programs that use volunteer

mentors who essentially act as “big brothers” and big sisters” to keep these

youngsters out of trouble and to guide them towards a constructive life.

Digital Library-

Dr. K. N. Modi University has built a Digital library of international standards

where students could use their time productively. A large number of students

prefer individual and team studies. Business students specially use library for

project work and assignments and seminars. Though there is a liking for hard copy

there are a good number of students who prefer e-text books & e-journals

Delnet-

Our library is a member of DELNET. Near about 30000 books are available in

the library for the benefit of the students, along with Wi-Fi connectivity &

Digital Library facility for net addicts.

Use of Video Conferencing Facilities- The University provides its students with

Video Conferencing, Auditorium facility and makes available multimedia

facilities.

Page 14: Dr. K. N. Modi University

In house Faculty Development Program-

DKNMU organises in house Faculty Development Programs, deputing faculty and

students for various workshops/training programs /conference etc.

Robotics- Robotics is a favourite subject for the techno savvy students. Dr. K. N.

Modi University conducted a robotics workshop in collaboration with Rob-

Sapiens Technology Pvt. ltd.

National Knowledge Network- Our University is a major participant of

National Knowledge Network. The NKN is a state-of-the-art multi-gigabit pan-

India network for providing an educational net. The purpose of net services is to

build quality institutions with requisite research facilities and creating a pool of

highly trained professionals. The NKN in our university is a useful tool that

benefits scientists, researchers and students from different backgrounds.

Page 15: Dr. K. N. Modi University

Challenges-

1-Class Room Teaching-

Traditional class room teaching often results in passive way to the students.

Innovation in teaching pedagogy; the students, faculty members and staff have an

important role to play. It is pertinent to note that students should be accountable

for learning responsibilities and right to have quality education.

We have overcome the challenge by changing two dimensional curriculum to three

dimensional curriculum.

Use of smart class rooms where three dimensional curriculum is being used in

teaching to students.

The students enquiry and curiosity is being answered through virtual lab concepts

showing video lectures, animated demonstrations etc.

By use of IIT NPTEL lectures-

Traditional way of teaching sometimes become boring and not interesting besides

advanced stage learning also become difficult and students looses interest to

develop concept and fundamental clarity essence is essential to be delivered in the

class. IIT NPTEL overcome to improved delivery system.

Use of audio-video presentation, use of quality delivery through LCD, readymade

availability of material at one source interesting to read and easy to deliver in class.

In depth knowledge can be obtained from IIT NPTEL lectures to satisfy the queries

of students.

Page 16: Dr. K. N. Modi University

2-Staff Training

This factor was mildly involved , both with respect to the contents and source of

training.

In our university teachers received in house training (FDP) according to their needs

and interests.

When the faculty members join the DKNMU three days orientation course is

being conducted to use three dimensional curriculum methodology in the class

room. Also the faculty members of DKNMU are allowed to attend various Faculty

Development Programmes / Short Term Courses/ Conferences/ Workshops to train

themselves in various top level institutes.

3-Infrastructure and Resources-

All factors with in this category are ranked high in their involvement, the lowest

one being “computers and peripherals”.

Most university nowadays was found to have an incomplete infrastructure, used to

its maximum.

The need for upgrading equipment’s was always raised.

The existing infrastructure of DKNMU is supporting all developments e.g.

Distance learning and development of teaching units.

Now we have world class Infrastructure and well equipped labs.

4-Organizational Climate and Shortage of Time-

The innovation history of the university, the “Vision” and the “Goals” factors were

all found to be highly involved in the implementation of the innovation.

Page 17: Dr. K. N. Modi University

The University visions include goals such as: Substantial ICT implementation in

education, educating an independent learner, making learning time and place more

flexible, increasing motivation.

DKNMU faculty members faced the challenge to learn methodology in short time

because the university was established in year 2008 and it is the big challenge in

short time.

Our teaching staff did it in a very short time with great enthusiasm.

5-Learning Configuration:

The innovation was conducted as part of the traditional timetable, the timing of the

activity depending on accessibility of computer labs.

Sometimes activities occurred in parallel with the regular timetable, including a

small group of students and sometimes the timetable was modified according to the

needs.

In most cases the innovation potential was not realized due to lack of compatibility

of the timetable.

Also the “Distribution of students” factor was low in involvement.
